Before a call goes on the answering machine, I would like it to ring at least 4 or five times. How can I do this?

You would set it for 4 rings or more. That way you will have more than 3 rings.

Go to Settings and choose options of Ring before Answering Machine.

It means that your fax machine is "answering" the incoming call before you pick up the handset. Usually, the factory setting on the fax machine picks up after two incoming rings. There are three ways you can address this issue: 1.) You can either change the number of rings to, say, five incoming rings to give you enough time to answer the phone before the fax machine picks up, or 2,) you can find out if your fax machine has a feature that allows for the voice hook "click over" that will allow you to override the fax when you pick up your handset, or 3.) turn your fax machine off until you need to send a fax.

If you want to investigate number 2.), then you'll need your operator's manual.

You must turn off your internal answering machine. There should be an on and off button somewhere on the main base.

Have you got in on automatic answer? if you have it will only ring up to five seconds, but then i guess it would answer the phone after those five seconds lol =/

You can adjust the Answer Delay time by going to Menu then DTAD. Adjust the Answer Delay under this menu... 6 seconds per one ring.

If you have auto attendant set up to answer for you in a multiline system, set that delay accordingly. That will be the first system to pick up, You should set up one auto attendant for every voice line coming into your phones.

The TAD (TELPHONE ANSWERING DEVICE) must answer within four rings (the recommended setting is two rings). The MFC cannot hear CNG tones until the TAD has answered the call, and with four rings there are only 8 to 10 seconds of CNG tones left for the fax ?handshake?. message. do not recommend using the toll saver feature on your external answering machine if it exceeds five rings.
