SOURCE: paper jam

If you have pulled out paper that was stuck before you may have flipped a sensor flag out of position. I have found in the past small pieces of paper left under the plate at the very bottom of the toner catridges where the paper comes in.

SOURCE: HP photosmart C4480 printer cartridge incompatible error BEWARE SPAM NUMBER BELOW 1-800-532-4187

Well....I solved the problem......bought a new Canon printer!!

I tried everything...unplugging, cleaning everything that was mentioned above. I was onto HP online support several time, but they were absolutely no help at all...they basically told me that the cartridge must be damaged or ink dried up and to buy a new cartridge to see if the error persisted.....I don't think so!!!
I will never by HP again after having issues with the last two I have had. I love my new Canon printer it is EVERYTHING that HP wasnt.

On an HP Photosmart 8150 printer, Do I set my Driver Installed Print Cartridge to Tri-Color, Gray Photo to use only the black ink and avoid using the colored cartridge?

That is entirely up to your personal preferences. I sue black foa almost all except things like coupons and other documents that the color is needed to make it useable.

I have a HP Photosmart D7160 and it won't print 4 X 6. It has black marks on the wrong side when it comes out, but not picture

Try flipping the paper. Probably you need to resize the image for this size, sounds like it is compressed and squnched together into those black marks. See if you can use a preview function.

Need help in fixing HP Photosmart C5280 Printer two springs on the side of carriage bar

We suggest you contact 'Parts Here' as they provide most parts for the C5280 printer, including carriage assembly parts, along with the C5280 service manual: http://www.partshere.com/models/hpprinters.asp?printer=Q8330A

C5280 CONTACT CLEANING / SERVICE TEST DIAGNOSTICS:

A. Ensure BOTH carriage/flex cables and BOTH ink cartridge contacts are thoroughly clean before proceeding - refer to Inkjet411's support page: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

B. Print Self Test Page:

1. Press and hold the CANCEL button.
2. Press the COLOR COPY button. Release both buttons.
3. The self test page should print. The printed pattern will verify printer is generally functional

--- The self test page is a 'forced' test print whether the ink cartridges are good or bad. Inspect color bars to verify proper nozzle/jetting health. If normal/regular printing is still not permitted then the problem is with either one, or both, of the ink cartridges. Activate Tap 41 test to confirm which cartridge is causing the issue.

C. Validate the cartridge's electrical health by running the 'Tap 41' diagnostics test. Refer to video procedure or .pdf document at the following links on how to activate and read the service test report: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=536

1. Load Letter/A4-size paper into paper feed tray.
2. If any lights are blinking, first press Cancel to attempt to clear.
3. Press and HOLD the Cancel button, press Ok button once.
4. At 'Mfg Commands' menu, click Right Arrow once until 'uiaux service' menu is displayed.
5. At 'uiaux service' menu, click the Right Arrow until Special Reports menu is displayed.
6. Select Ok, then click Right Arrow until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
7. Select Ok (Code = 0 will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 41' is displayed. Use the Left Arrow if you need to decrease numerical count.
8. Select Ok. Within one minute the Tap 41 diagnostic test report should be initiated and print (whether ink cartridges are good or not, i.e. this is a forced print test). See following 4 paragraphs (or video) on how to interpret diagnostic report.....

--- Providing the color cartridge is partially functioning the Tap 41 diagnostic test print will be printed (this is a forced service print test which is mainly used for the evaluation of ink cartridge electrical health). A good HP 75/75XL color cartridge should display 600 good nozzles, while a good HP 74/74XL black ink cartridge should show 672 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to video on how to read the printout.

---- If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink.

You can also test general printer performance by running the 'Tap 10' diagnostic test, use same procedure above and enter "code = 10". Both the 'Tap 41' and 'Tap 10' tests are 'forced print tests' - the printer will make every attempt to print the pattern whether the ink cartridges are good or bad...the patterns should be utilized to diagnose cartridge health. If 'regular' printing is still not possible then one or both of the ink cartridges is damaged.

NOTE: If you need to purchase a new ink cartridge(s) and are trying to cut costs, we suggest you try a remanufactured ink cartridge from http://www.inkplicity.com/ as their ink cartridges typically have the lowest cost in the USA, have a high reliability rating, come with a 1-year warranty and provide free shipping for all orders above $20 (available for US Residents only).

Why does color ink in Photosmart C7280 go down when you are only printing using black ink

Unless you set the printer settings to black and white it mixes colored ink to create black. It does this by default. Go to start printers and faxes. Right click on printer icon.Click printing preferences to change this.If youre using hp tool box setting is grayscale black only.
Hope this helps.

Can't print on colored paper but will print fine on white. How do you set it to accept the colored paper, which happens to be blue?

The printer can't differentiate between the colour, but it may have problem if the couloured paper is thicker than the white stuff that you're using.

How do you specify B&W printing on HP C4400

click "print" then go to the drag down menu that says "preview." go to "paper type/quality" and make sure it says "plain paper." then choose color: "grayscale." then click the "color options" tab and choose "black print cartridge only." if it is on the default paper setting of premium photo paper, it won't let you choose the black-only option. i don't know how to make the normal paper the default though because it won't save this on mine. so you have to go through these steps every time. unless anyone else knows??

Print in black ink only

I know you can print in Greyscale which prints in black and white only. On your Windows computer, you should just be able to click Start -> Printers and Faxes, then right-click your printer and choose Printing Preferences. Look for a tab that says Color and click it. There should be a selection, probably a check box, that lets you choose "Print in Greyscale". Afterwards, when you print, even color documents will print in black-and-white only.
