USB Playback order is wrong

No matter what I do the mp3s will not play in the correct order from the USB drive. Has anyone had any luck fixing this issue?

  • Anonymous Jul 11, 2009

Thanks for the suggestion, that was the first thing I tried. I have also tried formatting the usb drive (to make sure that I start with a fresh drive), writing the files to the folders I want with the names I want (that would adhere to the way the manual says the files should play), then using a program that alters the files sort order at the properties level of the files. All to no avail. I have tried several more complex ways to solve this issue, but nothing has helped. I even tried customer support who could not solve my issue. I guess there is a bug in my unit. Thanks anyway.

Ive just had the same problem with my Kenwood KDC-W6041U
What has worked for me was to rename the tracks at the beginning of the file name i.e.
01-track
02-track

Not
track-01
track-02

Testimonial: "Thank you so much. This was the problem. I didn't realize the system wanted the number to precede the name. Now I don't have to buy a new radio!!!"

Hello sweetkc73,

If you are just dumping the files all into the root directory they will simply play in the order that they were copied to the USB device.

You can change the order of play to whatever you want by creating separate folders and doing a "cut" and "paste" of the MP3 files. Look at the tree contained on page 16 of your manual. It shows the first track played will be the 1st file in the 1st folder. Then successive tracks in the same folder. Then the 1st file of the 1st nested folder, and so on. When all of the files in all of the nested folders have been played, it will advance to the 2nd folder and play the 1st file. Ad Infinitum, until the last file in the last folder.

After arranging your songs in folders in the sequence you want them to be played, you can use the search by entering the Multi Jog Select Mode, turn the Control Knob to switch between folder/file, and press the Control Knob to select the folder/file. Return to the previous folder by pushing the Control Knob LEFT. Return to the root folder by holding the Control Knob LEFT for at least 2 seconds.

Hope this helps.

I have a jvc kd-g720 stereo in my car and when I plug my iPod into the usb port it says "do not disconnect" and even though i have about 2,000 songs on my iPod the stereo will only play the same 49 ones in...

if you are plugging your ipod into the usb port of the kd-g720 it won't play all your songs because this particular radio only plays mp3s through the usb port. ipods play both mp3s and mp4s. so those 49 songs you're hearing are the mp3s on your ipod. in order to play all the songs on your ipod you must buy the cord that plugs in the back of the radio that will connect to your ipod. sorry for the bad news man. i had the same thing happen to me.

CD Player will not play MP3s

Your cd player is not compatible with reading MP3 format...not all are.
You will have to get one that states its a Multi reader or more specifically MP3 compatible.

RCA RT2870 USB won't allow playlists or let me skip folders

I have this same system and it looks like the USB playback is lacking this feature, of switching folders. A workaround is to use shuffle play to jump to one of the last songs in the first folder, then turn off shuffle and skip forward a few songs until you get into the next folder....and so on. Not very good, but for this price I was glad to have USB playback.
Some generic MP3 players will work in the USB port, but they play exactly the same as a USB drive. SO no real solution for this.

Sandisk 1gb microsd problems

The music might not be in the correct format. Does your phone play MP3s? Another thing might be the DRM problem with the MP3s. I had this problem once and had to strip the DRM stuff out of the MP3 before my phone would recognize it.

When you power on your MP3 player it will go to the FM radio. 1. Press menu.
2. Go down once and you'll be on "Mode". Press the right button to access the mode menu.
3. You either press the enter button after accessing the menu or go down to select Playback mode (I forget which one it is).

Good Luck!
