I have changed the gasket on the rocker box cover and sadly that did not cure it. can anyone point me in the right the direction are there any engine breather pipes?

Hi Dave:
Oil leaks should be fairly straightforward to find. Start by cleaning all the oil off the engine. Try running it for 5 minutes and then look for the oil leak. If it's too messy, clean it up and try again wit a 1 minute run. Guaranteed that you will find the source of the oil leak. You may not have the reason, but you will know where the oil is coming fom. Then we can help with the fix.

I have a 21 HP Kohler engine in my 2007 Sears 42 " lawn tractor. I did the 100 hour tune up last year. It's been fine up until this week when I would notice a puff of white smoke towards front, possibly...

Oil will be drawn into the engine under heavy acceleration, irrespective of load. Check this before you worry! You might also check for any external leaks of oil or hydraulic fluids around the exhaust area which could cause white smoke at odd intervals.
Good luck

What are the basic maintenance tips needed to maintain my lawn tractor L145 22 HP, 42"? Ex: What needs to be greased, when do I change the oil ect? Thanks Larry

Engine oil should be changed every 50 hours of use or annually, whichever occurs first. The oil should be a 10W-30 and it takes about 1.5 quarts with filter change. Check/clean the air filter every time the oil is changed. After cleaning the filter, hold a light to the filter to see of there is light coming through. If the light is very faint or none at all change the filter. Spark plugs can be changed every other oil change. The front axle should be greased every service, there is a grease fitting on each side of the axle towards the top of the spindle, by the wheel. There is also a grease fitting on each blade spindle. They are not easy to grease without taking the belt shields off. Also check the bearings on the deck by grabbing the pulleys and try to rock side to side. Check the belts for cracks, and make sure the tire pressure is set right. If your tire pressure is off the mower will cut uneven. I usually set tire pressure 10psi for the rears and 12 psi for the front. Hope this is what you were looking for, Daniel.

I have a problem leveling my mower deck. I level it at the sides and front .I use the mower and it cuts uneven. mower is deck is out of alignment. less than 1 hour on it.

The deck could be bent, or you will probably have to level the back of the deck as well. Another thing to check is the air in the tires, this can cause an uneven cut. Although the tire may look pumped up, with the weight of a person on the tractor can cause an uneven cut.

Why does my 42 inched deck craftsman tractor cut uneven?

It needs to be leveled. Level it from side to side and front to back, then drop the front 1/4" lower than the rear. The hangers holding the deck in place are adjustable.

Change oil in riding lawn mower

look at the side of the engine down low. There should be a pipe plug screwed in that has a square head. Put a drain pan under the area and remove this plug and the oil will drain out. It's best if the engine is warm. You should get 1 1/2 quarts of oil out of it. Let it drain for about 5 minutes and then re-install the pipe plug. Add 1 1/2 quarts of 30W oil and then cut the grass !

Have 12.5 hp craftsman with brigss and stratton engine was cutting grass loud engine knock started and cut off when trying to restart it will just knock did a rod throw

Yes it sounds like the rod broke but to be sure remove the spark plug and push a straw or something flexible about 2 inches into the cylinder and then turn the engine over by hand to see of the piston is moving.

My deck cuts shoter on the rt,ie uneven

Check your tire pressures:
10 psi. for rear tires.
14 psi. for the front.

Note that according to MTD:
Making sharp right hand turns. Twin-blade mower decks are designed with the discharge on the right side and two side-by-side blades. The side-by-side twin blade decks have the left hand blade positioned slightly forward and in front of the right blade. This provides cutting overlap when traveling in a straight line. As a result, the tractor should mainly operated making primarily left hand turns when cutting. During left turns this cutting overlap is maintained. If turning right when, it is possible to negate this overlap and leave an uncut strip.
