Can't download iTunes, IE 8, HP Printer...Fatal Error MSI Scan is the usual statement, although I've gotten numbered failures too. But Fatal Error is the main one.

Hey

The SCAN.MSI that comes up about your HP printer, that is located on the CD in a special folder.

It would be best for you to completely uninstall all HP programs from the computer related to the printer.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
unplug the printer first
use the free(ware) version. Download the program, start it, go to the uninstall programs part, find the HP related items and uninstall, Use medium setting and delete all files and items it finds, just click on select all and then delete.

When that is done restart the computer, then use the CD or I'll direct you to the full feature download to reinstall it.

I've delt with this scan.msi issue quite a few times here and I know how to solve it. If this doesn't work for whatever reason you would have to go to the cd (right click, open) and find the scan.msi file, when the error comes up asking for the scan file, direct it there (Exactly to the file in the cd, it may be hidden inside a few folders) and it should solve that one.

Dvd/cd tray same problem as others posted here

My experience (with the R280) MAY have some relevance. It turns out that, should you turn the printer power on WHILE the output tray is in the upper (DVD/CD) position, you get an undocumented pattern of error lights, error message, and no ability to print. The cure (for the R280) is: just move the tray to the lower position and leave it there long enough for the printer to complete its power-up cycle and initialization, after which the green POWER light will be solidly on. Then you can shift the tray to the upper position for DVDs, or go ahead and print on paper where it is. Epson "technical" "support" people all deny that this is the way it works, and they want me to return the printer for replacement. I have confirmed the behavior on TWO different R280s. They also deny that their CD-Label software scatters "CDLabel.alb" files whenever you load a photograph as background, but that's another issue, and fortunately non-fatal.

Upon turning on our Masterlink, it read "LOAD OS".

if you are computer savy, you can disassemble the masterlink and test the cd drive in another computer. if it works, check the power connector to the cd drive. switch it with the hd connector to see if it fires up.

keep use posted.
