HP 3310 not printing black

Problem with printer.
Went to print a photo on glossy paper. It started to print ok but then went greeny.
Printed the same photo on plain paper and it was ok
Printer was in use for a few days with plain paper and was ok
Went to print an other photo on glossy paper and it was greeny.
Printed of a test page and there was no black.
Ran head cleaning cycle but still no black.
Changed black cartridge (twice) cleaned heads but still no black being printed.
What could be the problem ?

I suggest you first activate a CLEAN PRINTHEAD routine from the TOOLS/MAINTENANCE menu to see if you can blow/**** ink down and thru the PRINTHEAD nozzle plate. You may also need to place a damp cloth under the printhead to help 'wet' the nozzle plate in an effort to remove residual black ink buildup...you can find some youtube videos on how to do this. For additional HP02 support information, please visit our HP02 system support page which includes videos of procedures below: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1372
NOTE: In most cases when the HP02 cartridge is not recognized, or has poor connectivity, you will normally receive an "Unrecognized Cartridge" or "Cartridge Problem" error message with a big RED X; in most cases (like 99.3%) the smart chip needs to be replaced with a new one - please note the chip life has 25 month expiration window from the time the HP02 (or 363 in the UK) cartridge is initially installed into the printer. Costco USA/Canada and Fry's Electronic's (along with some Best Buy stores in Canada) provide a top-notch refilling/chip re-programming service today...check it out:http://www.costcoinkjetrefill.com/pricing

You can also verify the permanent built-in PRINTHEADs electrical performance inside this legacy printer model by running the TAP 43 diagnostic test (either one of the procedures below applies to all printers which use HP02 or HP363 ink cartridges): For additional HP02 support information, please visit our HP02 system support page which includes videos of everything mentioned below: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1372
A. HP02 ink-series printers with KEYPAD (i.e. keypad numbers 1-9)
Tap 43 PRINTHEAD Health Diagnostics:
Video Procedure: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2391
1. Press * and # keys simultaneously.
2. "Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed.
3. Press 123 to display the 'Support/Service' menu.
4. At 'Support/Service' menu, click the Right Arrow 3 times until Special Reports menu is displayed.
5. Select Ok, then click Right Arrow 2 times until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
6. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 43' is displayed. Use the Left Arrow if you need to decrease numerical count.
7. Select Ok. The test page prints.
8. Check the 4th line at the top of the printed report; an electrically good/stable PRINTHEAD 'Pen Status' will state "Pen Status: Pen OK".........if any other message is displayed then the PRINTHEAD may have failed and may need to be replaced (if part is still available). It is suggested to perform the 'Printer Reset' procedure below to first rule out printer firmware related problem.
B. HP02 ink-series printer models that DO NOT HAVE a KEYPAD:
Internal Test Print:
1. Press the Menu button, press the Right Arrow button to select 'Tools', and then press 'OK'.
2. Press the Right Arrow button several times to select 'Print Test Page', and then press 'OK'. The test page prints.

1. Turn ON the printer.
2. Press and Hold the "Print Photos" & "Red Eye Removal" buttons.

5. Scroll through the menu by pressing the right arrow button until the display says 'Special Reports'.
6. Select Ok, then press the arrow button until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
7. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 43' is displayed.
8. Select Ok. The test page prints.
9. Check the 4th line at the top of the printed report; an electrically good/stable PRINTHEAD 'Pen Status' will state "Pen Status: Pen OK".........if any other message is displayed then the PRINTHEAD may have failed (unfortunately the PRINTHEAD is not replaceable). It is suggested to perform the 'Printer Reset' procedure below to first rule out printer firmware related problem.

When printing, if I select any other form of paper than "Plain Paper", e.g. "Photo Glossy Paper", the print (of a photo) comes out with a distinct Magenta overhue. The true colours are...

Hello Landscapeman ,

You need to specify the paper type when the print dialog box appears. Heavy glossy paper needs to spend more time in the fuser so that the toner is fixed.

Wet smudgy lines on printing 6x4" photos, on glossy kodak photo paper. Ok bon plain paper

Before you hit the [Print] button, click on the [Properties] button. Then you have to find the setting where you select various types of paper. Select Glossy Photopaper and see if that helps.

Photo,s from printer come out greenish,it,s a HP c7180 photosmart !! self test diagnostic shows white stripes in Magenta ?heads have been cleaned

Don't have a solution, but a similar problem and maybe a work around. My prints on glossy paper come out with a strong red tinge if glossy paper is specified. Seems to work all right if plain paper is specified with glossy paper in tray. Was on chat and email and phone support with HP for about two days. Went through all tests and resets with them. No solution from them except an offer of a refurbished Model 309 for $200. It was on sale at Costco for $169 that same day. I didn't buy it as it is missing features on the C7180.

Note the extended self test shows the light magenta ink is not printing - but it does use ink and the ink drop counter shows it is using ink.

Try specifying plain paper when you print on glossy. Maybe our problems are related?

Black colour ?

Thats because it's using the other colours to mix what it thinks to be shades of grey. Due to the black ink being pigment based and the colours inks dye base, when printing onto glossy paper the machine will use the colour dye based inks to make up black.
If you were to print on plain paper, set to greyscale, then the machine will just use the black as the pigment ink sits onto of the plain paper and will not run should the paper get wet.  With glossy paper the ink has to be absorbed into the paper ad the Black pigment ink will not do this so the machine will use the coloured inks.

Sucks but true.

My canon i960 is printing only green

I had this problem. If I tried to print a black& white photo on to glossy paper, it would only print green. When I tried on to plain paper using the 'fast' option, it printed in black. The reason for this is, on plain paper it uses the black cartridge, but output to glossy photo paper using the 'high' option, uses the mix of colours in your colour cartridge. If one or more of your colours has run out, you will get a print with the ink left in the cartridge. Replace the cartridge or refill it & your problem is solved.
