This is known as 'cycling' and is common with mercury-vapor bulbs nearing end-of-life. When the bulb first starts, it glows dimly and grows in brillance. As the light grows, the pressure and temperature of the bulb also grows--increasing power demand. After a short while, the demand exceeds the ballast limit and the bulb extenguishes until the temperature (and pressure) drop again. Then, the cycle starts over. Bottom line: you need a new bulb (or, the correct bulb).

I purchased a new lamp. When I power the unit on it lights up to normal brightness; tnen, the shutter closes and the lamp stays on. You can see the lamp on from the rear of the unit. Any ideas. (I replaced one of the fans, no luck.)

Acer monitor swtiches itseolf off in i9n about 15

After much ado and waiting for tech support from Acer, remembered that some years ago something similar happened with a printer so I downloaded a new driver from acer for the monitor onto another computer, copied it to cd and then with much fiddling installed this on the acer, as it was installing monitor started to flicker and finally lit up again normally. Now working perfectly! When tech support phones, will tell them!!!!!!

Need replacement fan for PJ458D. Can anybody tell me where to purchase it?

A computer chassis fan works perfect. It has to be 60MMx60mm size. You can get it from E-bay for about $5.00.

PJ458D Displays Multiple Lines and scrambled picture

White noise-the image you get when you turn your television to a channel that isn't receiving a signal. Sorry, this is an old term for on-air televisions. Its kinda the same image you get when your DirecTV signal gets scrambled during a thunderstorm.

My Viewsonic PJ458D lamp not coming on

I have the same problem before. I found a replacement fan. A computer chassis fan works perfect. It should be 60mmx60mm - plenty in E-bay for about $5.00. Very easy to open the unit to replace the fan. It has 2 fans in a rubber housing. Check which one need replacement.
