Where to look from here?

1.Thermostat activates the centrifugal chamber air pump. 2.If green light on control panel lights up, furnace will operate normally. 3.If green light does not come on, centrifugal air pump will run for hours. There is no click or apparent attempt to initiate gas valve or ignitor. 4.Simply turning off furnace at door switch and back on will always return furnace to normal heating cycle. Turning down thermostat to shut off furnace will also return furnace to normal operating cycle. Furnace will do this at erratic times, sometimes go days, weeks between malfunctions. Have had installed; 2 control boards, 2 limiter switches, 1 ignitor, 2 fan limiter switches. Pressure switch was bypassed by a previous HVAC tech in an attempt to solve this problem. What about a shutdown from the previous heating cycle that resets with power on/off, but does not reset?

It sound like the limit switch is shutting off and not coming back in to play .

Testimonial: "A previous HVAC tech removed the limit switch and wired it 'hot'with no change."

I would contact the makers of your heater and see if they have a tech helpline as this may be a makers fault .

SOURCE: Goodman furnace GMPN080-4 Getting 4 RED blinks/Open Limit Swtch

You have a limit switch located in the furnace (a little bigger than a dime and located near the center of the front panel, sometimes the switch is mounted to a small fiberglass board) . There will be two wires going to it. They sometimes trip so often that they fail to automatically reset(due to dirty filters or undersized ductwork). You can SHUT OFF POWER TO THE FURNACE, then remove the two screws holding the switch in the furnace, pull the switch out of the furnace and tap on it and wipe it off.
The switch may work a few more times but should be replaced with the same size and type. You will see some rating printed on the switch somewhere. Write down all the numbers and get a replacemet from a furnace/AC supply house. If you have a meter and know how to use it you could check the switch for continuity.

Sometimes just a tap on the switch will get it going. There will also be a couple of rollout switches that could be tripped. They have little buttons on them to reset them. If they trip it may have other issues to be solved.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: goodman gmnt100-4b wont ignite

I had the same problem. I had to remove a return air duct filter that i had installed and it worked just fine. The system needs plenty of air flow to operate.

SOURCE: furnace wont start. heil gas furnace. on initial

Yes, inspect the air intake, exhaust pipe, filter and condensate piping for blockage or moisture. Also check for a hole in the hose that goes from the small exhaust blower to the pressure switch or a bad connection on the switch or control board. You may be able to temporalily jump the switch for diagnostic purposes only.

SOURCE: Coleman furnace -- fan runs, ingniter won't light,

My furnace did not have a reset switch on that particular limiter. I unpugged the switch, it had 2 wires, waited 15 seconds or so and then plugged it back in . Turned the furnace back on and the limiter reset itself.

Have a rudd furnace two steady green lights and flow chart say normal fault detected? But cant seem to get answer for what that means?

If your Rheem furnace has two steady green lights and the flow chart indicates that a "normal fault detected", it typically means that the furnace is operating normally and there are no active faults detected. The two green lights indicate that the furnace is receiving power and that the control board is functioning properly.
If you are experiencing issues with your furnace, it is recommended to check for any error codes displayed on the control board or consult with a licensed HVAC technician for further troubleshooting and maintenance.

1991 Miller/Nordyne cmf-80 furnace Periodic non ignition

That's a "mind of its own" condition that I've gained & lost customers over. When the unit first starts in heat, you mentioned the induced draft motor will start with no other reaction from the system, that should be the best time to locate the issue by using a volt meter. If you are getting 24 volts to MV/PV at the gas valve then you know all of the heating circuit has "proved", and that the gas valve is the problem. If not, the backtrac until you find 24v. Now if you are simply just changing parts until you find the problem, which we've all done, I believe you've changed all that you can. Check all wire connections. Its probably a loose, corroded, or damaged wire/cannon plug(the plastic plugs that multiple wires are connected), stopped up gas pilot orifice, or the gas valve its self. Hope this helps!

My furnace works on ac and blows on ac but on heat it does not blow but i hear a humming sound coming from the furnace

Most furnace operating on Oil or gas will heat the combustion chamber before starting fan to prevent cold air draft at start-up, can last a minute or two. Eiter the main flame does not come on or the chamber thermostat have fail. Try to modify fan option on room thermostat from auto to on. Cold air coming out: burner problem or no more oil or gas, warm air: burning chamber thermostat problem, leave room thermostat fan option to on until repair.

I need help with my central heat and air unit, it has a heat pump. the model number is GQ3RA-036K. I am changing the theromstat out and the wires are connected to it. there are eight wire colors that are...

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} Thermostat wire color codes explained.
Please note. Not all installers use the proper color codes when they install or replace equipment. It may be necessary go go to the furnace or outdoor unit to verify what wires are for what purpose. Also be sure there are no splices in the wire that could change the wire colors between components.
  • R (red) or Rh (Red heat) 24 volts from equipment.
  • Rc (Red cooling) 24 volts from transformer in cooling equipment.
Note: If only furnace has a transformer and cooling equipment does not jumper Rc and Rh.
  • W (White) sends 24 volts to furnace control to start the heating cycle.
  • W2 (no standardized wire color, usually whatever wire color is available) controls second stage heat.
Note: W2 is most often used for heat pumps to control what is called emegency heat or Auxillary heat, and most often will use the white wire.
  • Y (yellow) often (blue) is used, controls cooling unit (outdoor condensing unit) also is used for heat pump heat.
  • Y2 (no standardized wire color, usually whatever wire color is available) controls second stage cooling.
  • G (Green) controls the fan "on" operation of the furnace/air handler. Also often is used to start the blower for many electric furnaces.
  • C (common) most often brown but can also be black or other color available to installer.
  • O (orange) Energizes heat pump reversing valve for cooling (Trane and most other brands).
  • B (Blue) Energizes heat pump reversing valve for heating (Rheem, Ruud and Weatherking).

No heat and I'm cold.

Do you have the code reference on your furnace door? If so what does it say? The furnace has locked itself out, and we need to determine what in the world it needs..
