It will help you find the product key for your legitimately installed copy of Windows Vista.

Although, considering you're still on Vista, you might have other issues :)

How to you do a factory restore for windows vista

Computer users restore their operating systems for several reasons, such as the presence of corrupted files and to return the registry to its original state. This removes third-party software that consumes valuable memory space and also rids the PC of malware and spyware. Windows Vista, although not the most popular Windows operating system, offered users the Vista Business Edition and the Vista Enterprise Edition, both designed for use by businesses or individuals.

Click the Vista Start button to open the Start menu and click "Control Panel." Click "System and Maintenance" followed by "Back Up and Restore Center." Click "Back Up Files" followed by "Continue." If prompted for an administrative password, enter the password and click "Continue." This opens the Where Do You Want To Save Your Back Up? page. Check the radio button to indicate where to save your back up data. Options include "On a Hard Disk, CD or DVD" and "On a Network." Click "Next." This opens the Which Files Do You Want To Back Up? page. If you chose hard disk, you must save the backup to an external drive, such as USB hard drive or flash drive. Check the radio buttons corresponding with the types of file you want to save and click "Next." Click "Save settings and start backup." Continue when the Backup Complete message displays. b> Restore b> Remove all peripherals from your computer, such as scanners, faxes and printers. Do not remove the keyboard, monitor or mouse. Power down your PC. After shutdown, power it up. Hold the "F8" key during startup before the Windows logo appears on the screen until the Advanced Boot Options menu displays. Select "Repair your Computer" using the down arrow on your keyboard and press "Enter." Choose your language setting and click "Next." Log in as the user that holds administrative credentials and click "OK." Your computer manufacturer will offer you the option of restoring to factory settings. For instance, if restoring Vista on a Dell, you must select "Dell Factory Image Restore" and click "Next." On other computers, click "Next" after choosing to restore to factory settings. Select "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" if using a Dell.

If using another computer, select a comparable choice, such as "Reformat the hard drive and operating system to factory condition." Click "Next." Click "Finish" when the restoration is complete.

Reset my dell d630 to factory settings

Hi:
The Dell D630 does not have a factory restore partition on the hard drive. Your only option is to use the windows restore feature that is accessable off of the start button, all programs, accessories, system tools. Plan B would be to borrow an operating system disk that matches the Certificate sticker on the bottom of the laptop, and then download all needed drivers from the Dell Website.

How to use reset disc

For instructions, "how to use windows explorer version 8" open Microsoft's link provided; http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/support/faq.aspx

The term you posted. "How to use reset disk". If it’s your intention to restore your laptop, notebook system back to its original factory condition than use your restore CD's. Your Compaq came with a few CD's. One should be labeled Restore CD. Insert the Restore CD into your CD-ROM drive. Restart your notebook.
Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your Windows system back to its original factory settings.
(Warning! By using the restore CD, your personal data/ programs may be erased). If your Compaq is able to load your Windows operating system. Try running Windows System Restore. Pick a date (Past), that your Compaq functioned correctly and allow windows to restore your operating system. (Doing this will not uninstall your data or programs).

Good luck, hope you find this helpful.

Use external USB CD/DVD Drive to run your Windows Vista Operating System to Restore Disk.
Maybe your Built-in CD/DVD cannot read or access your OS.

If you don't have this device, you try another Windows Vista OS Disc.
Good luck!

I want 2 reset my entire dell d630 laptop How do I do this I don't have any of the passwords

Hey,

I hope when you say that you wish to reset the system you mean you need to go to the factory settings. If you wish to go to the factory settings and even if you do not remember the password, there is still a way to do it. But in order to do it you need to have the OS disc from Dell. You have one, you can perform the following steps. It works for Vista:

HOW TO RESTORE DELL LAPTOP TO FACTORY SETTINGS USING DELL OPERATING SYSTEM WINDOWS VISTA DVD
1. Insert the Dell Windows Vista DVD into the DVD drive, and then restart the computer. 2. During the startup process, repeatedly press <F12>. 3. In the Boot Device Menu, press the <Down Arrow> to select *Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive, and then press <Enter>. If the Boot Device Menu does not appear, restart the computer. (You might not get Onboard or USB CD-rom Drive in that case if you get any option that says anything about CD or DVD, select that option) 4. When the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD screen appears, immediately press any key to start the computer from the Windows Vista DVD. For example, immediately press the <Spacebar> when the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD screen appears. If you do not press a key immediately, the computer may not start from the Windows Vista DVD to do image restore. Instead, the computer may try to start the currently-installed copy of Windows Vista operating system. If this situation occurs, restart the computer, and then repeat steps 2 and 3.
5. When Windows Vista starts from the Windows Vista DVD, other screens may appear during the startup process. If other screens appear, accept the default options, and then continue to the language settings screen.
6. On the language settings screen, click the appropriate language in the Language to install list, click the appropriate time and currency format in the Time and currency format list, click the appropriate keyboard layout to use in the Keyboard or input method list, and then click Next. 7. On the lower-left corner of the Install now screen, click Repair your computer.
8. If the Windows Vista Setup program detects any problems on the computer, click No when the program displays the following message:
Windows found problems with your computer's startup options.
Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer? 9. In the System Recovery Options window, under Operating System, click Windows Vista (TM) Version, even if this entry is already selected, and then click Next to display the Choose a recovery tool window. 10. Click on Command Prompt 11. Type path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32 and press <ENTER> key 12. Type d: and press <ENTER> key 13. Type cd tools and press <ENTER> key 14. Type PCRestore and press the <ENTER> key and Dell Factory Image Restore window will appear 15. Click on Next and Confirm Data Deletion dialog will appear 16.Place a check mark beside "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" for the final confirmation & click on Next when ready The restoration process takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes; the format bar will run back and forth (See Image 17. Click Finish to reboot system
