Even without the receipt, if you know the purchases date and vendor you may be able to get warranty support.
- If you paid with a credit/debit card, you have proof of purchase on your bill (if you don't have the paper credit card bill, you should be able to download it at the card's online site).
- Many vendors can provide you with a copy receipt although they will almost certainly want to know the date and location of purchase and the method of payment.
Your best bet is:
- Call the vendor and ask whether they can provide a copy receipt - some will do this by email.
- Call the manufacturer, inform them of: the model and serial number from the plate on the equipment; the date and place of purchase. Then explain how the problem arose with the equipment and get their advice on how to proceed. They may ask you to do some tests and report back. (Provided you are certain that the item is still under warranty, if the first representative tries to put you off, ask to speak to a supervisor.)
If you want further advice on this at Fixya, you can provide details here of where you purchased the item and how you paid for it (obviously without providing personal or financial information).
One tip: remember that if you purchased the equipment with a credit card, you almost certainly have a warranty extension benefit on the card - usually double the warranty period up to one year. Check with your credit card provider or look up the benefits booklet they provide when they issue a new card and on their website. If that applies, you have an additional step which is to check the warranty expiration date and then contact the credit card provider's warranty extension service who will advise how to make the claim.
If you want more information or advice on how to test, we'll need the make, model and serial number of the equipment and a brief description of the setup.
Hope this helps and let's hope you can do this through warranty so that you don't have to choose new equipment ;)
