Some HDMI Input Picture Settings Grayed out?

Suddenly when I try to change picture settings under "Preference" for the HDMI inputs... several of the options are grayed out. Such as Dynalight and Dynamic Contrast. I have tried several things and nothing has helped... even did a factory reset. The strange thing is they work on the ANT input.

SOURCE: Can not access menu or input functions

Hi rduncan27,
I will be happy to help. 88% of LCD tv problems are with the backlight, the symptoms you described indicate a probable inverter malfunction. Lets do a simple test to check the functionality.

  1. Get the tv to a point that it is producing sound.
  2. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen.
  3. Look very closely for a dark video image.
Let me know your findings and we can proceed from there.

You either have failed 24vdc power supply section or failed backlight inverter board, check for 24vdc first, look for caps with leaking/bulging top.

When playing a DVD, my Bose 3-2-1 DVD player's picture is not connecting to my Vizio Smart TV, only the sound.

  1. Make sure the video cables are properly connected. The cables that connect the DVD player to the TV should be securely plugged into the correct ports on each device. Double-check that the cables are not loose or damaged.
  2. Check the input source on your TV. Make sure the TV is set to the correct input source that the DVD player is connected to. For example, if the DVD player is connected to HDMI 1, then the TV should be set to HDMI 1 as well.
  3. Check the TV's settings. Some TVs have a "picture in picture" or "picture by picture" feature that may be turned on, preventing the main picture from showing.
  4. Check the DVD player's settings. Some DVD players have a setting that controls the aspect ratio of the picture. Make sure this is set correctly for your TV.
  5. Check the TV and DVD player compatibility. Some TV's are not compatible with older DVD players and this could be the reason for the lack of picture.

Bose v35 Sound plays but no picture.

If you have already tried using different HDMI cables and testing the system on different TVs with no success, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try: Check the input settings on your TV: Make sure you have selected the correct input on your TV. Sometimes, the input setting may have changed accidentally, or the TV may have multiple HDMI inputs, so it is worth double-checking. Check the output settings on your Bose V35: Make sure the output settings on your Bose V35 are correct. Go to the "Video" settings on your Bose V35 and make sure the "HDMI Out" is selected as the output option. Power cycle your equipment: Try turning off your TV, Bose V35, and any other devices connected to the system. Unplug everything from the power source, wait a few minutes, and then plug everything back in and turn it on again. Reset your Bose V35: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your Bose V35 to its default settings. To do this, turn off your Bose V35 and unplug it from the power source. Then, press and hold the "Source" and "Setup" buttons on your Bose V35 remote control for about 10 seconds until you see "Resetting System" on the display. If you have tried all of these steps and are still not able to get a picture, it may be a hardware issue and you should consider contacting Bose customer support or a professional repair service for further assistance.

Where is the HDMI connection on my Sharp LC-46SB57? I installed X1 and cannot get picture. Sharp Input 1,2&3 are grayed out but Inputs 5Roku & 6blue ray work.

The X1 box acts like a set-top cable box. The HDMI output can be connected to any HDMI connector. There are three HDMI connections on the rear of the set. You have the Blu-Ray connected to one of them, Input 6. You should have no issues with connecting the X1 to either Input 7 or Input 8. There is no specific "TV" HDMI connection. You simply use the remote to select the HDMI port that the X1 is connected to.

Cable box is plugged into denon's hdm1, but I can't get a picture. Hdm1 out monitor (arc) is plugged to TV hdm1 in (arc).

Power up all components. Select the HDMI 1 input on the Denon amp, and the HDMI 1 input on the TV. Additionally, run the old analog cables between the cable box and the TV. If no picture, select the input on the TV that is associated with the analog input from the cable box. You should have a picture at this point - but it will be a standard definition type. Check the settings on the cable box to change the output from "A / V" to Digital on the HDMI jack - if present. You may have better luck unplugging power / replugging in the cable box first - or calling the cable company if you can't find settings for this. Once you have the output of the cable box to HDMI, select HDMI on the TV. If you still don't have it working - try bypassing the Denon and go directly into the TV from the cable box. Try it with BOTH HDMI cables. Also - try different inputs and out puts (HDMI 2, HDMI 3, etc.). Discard any HDMI cable that fails to show video and play audio.

TVs need an input to display a picture. Some TVs have several inputs and you must select the one you are using. Example: my TV has four HDMI inputs on the back. If I connect my PC to one of the HDMI ports I must select that input in setup to display My HDMI ports are labeled HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, and HDMI 4.
If I connect my PC to HDMI 3, I must select in setting HDMI 3 as the input.

Poor picture and colour quality on hd through hd box red is pink fuzzy hd picture

You need to check the resolution of your TV thru your input setting, try to check which will give better picture quality between 1080 or 720 settings. Also secure that your input setting as either HDMI 1 or 2 or 3, you can use the original remote and change setting by pressing input in cycle.

PIP function does not work, the settings is greyed out also! I have a wii, PS3 and freesat :)

Hi nikkicollier,
PiP for your TV works between two different sources. This means between a component source and an HDMI source or between an HDMI source and another HDMI source. PiP also works with a PC connection, e.g. when using the TV as a computer display. PiP does not work between two component sources. The setting will be grayed out when you don't have a configuration that is supported, as the Samsung TV's are usually able to automatically detect which sources are plugged in and available.
derrickolz.png

I'm not exactly sure what sort of configuration you want your PiP to work in, but try one of the following configurations.
  • TV Cable (through VCR or other via Component input) with Satellite in PiP (via HDMI input)
  • PS3 (via HDMI Input) with Satellite in PiP (via Component Input)
  • Wii via HDMI Input) with PS3 in PiP (via HDMI Input)
You can usually find an HDMI cable for much cheaper at an electronics supplies shop, Radio Shack, or on eBay or Gumtree.
To change your PiP settings:
  1. Press the MENU button on the remote control. Select Picture and press Enter.
  2. Select PIP and press Enter.
  3. Press the enter button again, and press up or down to change the setting to On and press enter again.
    Note:
If PIP is activated the screen will display in widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio.)
  4. Press the up or down buttons to select the Source then press the Enter button.
Select the source of the sub-picture by pressing the up and down arrows and then pressing the Enter button.
Note: The sub-picture can serve different source selections based on the what the main source is set to.
    Note:
You may notice that the picture in the PIP window becomes slightly unnatural when you use the main screen to view a game or karaoke.
You can download the full PDF manual for your TV here (large download at 26MB.) Much of the PIP information can be found on pages 13 and 14.
Good luck, I hope that helps.

Toshiba 40XV645U - No picture on HDMI 1 when TV is turned on

I assume that you have set the input source selction as in Page 32 and HDMI 1 is solid and and not grayed out. If so check the Preferences menu and see if there is an option for power on set up.
Also look at page 51 about HDMI feature settings. I assume you turn the cable box on first before turning the TV on.

Picture from analog tv signal is not sharp

I have this same machine, you did'nt mention what input you are using (composite, S-Video, component or HDMI) or what type of display you have (CRT, LCD, Plasma etc.).
If your T.V. has a HDMI input I recommend using that, if not and it's of fairly recent vintage use the component inputs (not to be confused with composite video inputs, or yellow RCA-type input).or at the very least use the S-Video input.
In the setup menu (on screen) try setting the "TV Screen" option to the 480p setting and if you are using the HDMI input try setting that to the highest resolution your T.V. has or set it to "Auto"
Finally in the on screen video menu select the "Video" setting and set the "Still Mode" option to automatic, and the "Output Level" to lighter or darker whatever your preference is.
Remember...Always use HDMI or component video inputs on your television (if it has those inputs)!
Hope this helps!
Joe
