When hard drive is connected to computer, blue light comes on and flashes but is not seen on the computer??

I have seen the power adapters go out on the Lacie external drives and that causes the light to flash. You can check the voltages coming out of the adapter with a multimeter if you have one available. The voltages should be 5 and 12 volts. If you don't get that then the adapter is bad, you can contact Lacie about a replacement adapter or get a generic case and swap your drive to it. Without seeing the machine, I'm thinking you have a motherboard problem. But try these troubleshooting steps before throwing in the towell:
Open the case and disconnect the CD cable. Now try it. If it still doesn't work, disconnect the hard drive and try it.
Let me know what happens. I've seen CDs mess up a system like this. I many times will swap out the power supply, but I'm thinking with the lights flashing, its a more serious problem.

What happens when you just boot the computer without the hard drive installed?

If your portable hard drive was set up as the "H" drive, go to My Computer (in Windows XP), or Computer (in VISTA), select your "H" drive and view your files (if there).

My light stopped working completely, and the unit was not recognized by the PC. I removed the drive fron the case and installed in my computer. Works perfectly.
