Screen goes black but sound is good.

Screen goes black after a couple of seconds. The sound is fine. The screen can be illuminated, momentarily, by pressing the display button on the remote control. The picture can be seen by shining a torch onto the black screen.

This sounds like the inverter which powers the display fluorescent has or is failed/failing. If you take a torch to the blacked out display can you see the image faintly? If so the unit needs repairing.

    Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately i have already tried changing the inverter, AV and PSU boards without success. I think it has something to do with the display switch but I don't know where it is?

How do i reset the projection lamp timer?

Hello
Press the "Power" button on the TV remote to turn the TV on. Press the "Display" key. Press "5," followed by the "Vol+" key, followed by the "Power" button. Wait for the service menu screen to appear on the screen. This could take anywhere from a couple of seconds up to a minute or two.
Press the "Jump" key three times in rapid succession. Press "2" nine times in rapid succession

Press "3" once, followed by the "Mute" key, followed by the "Enter" key. Wait as the screen flashes momentarily.

Press the "Power" button on the TV to exit the "Service menu" and turn the TV off.

Every time I turn it on, it displays nothing, just a black screen.But the power indicator is on and there are some white lights flashing next on the Caps lock button and above the scroll button..

Dead (ish) Laptop.

Press the power button momentarily to check if it is hibernating or in stand by. If this doesn't work;

Try firstly removing the laptop's battery as it may be at a critical voltage and the system will not start because of it. Plug in your ac adaptor and monitor what happens. Does the power light illuminate? If it does it should then boot up, if it doesn't, try a known good ac adaptor before going any further.
If the adaptor is fine and the laptop still won't start, then you may have a mother board fault and should contact a dealer/repairer for further advice.
Hope this helps.

Blackout Display Mode: When the Blackout mode is activated, the display turns off to reduce power consumption. The additional power made available by turning off the display helps enhance sound quality. If a button is pressed during the Blackout mode, the display will illuminate for 5 seconds before blacking out again. Blackout Mode On and Off (CDA-9855 only) When Blackout mode is turned on, the display will turn off to reduce power consumption. This additional power enhances the sound quality. Press and hold FUNC. for at least 2 seconds to activate the blackout mode. The display will turn off. If any button on the unit is pressed during the blackout mode, the function will be displayed for 5 seconds to show the operation before returning to Blackout mode. To cancel Blackout mode, press and hold FUNC. for at least 2 seconds.
Copied from the alpine user manual..
Hope this helps
