Blurred and distorted view of the subject

I have been using my cannon powershot S1 IS for two years now without any problem. But now it has deveoped a problem. When I power it on in shooting mode, whole LCD screen /viewfinder shows completely blurred view of the subject in a frame and same blurred image is stored.

I have tried all the settings, focus/zoom changes but to no avail. Please, suggest what should I do to get rid of this problem.

Thanks very much!

Yep, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Its possible that there is a CCD issue with your camera. I've been reading more and more people are having CCD issues with the S1-IS. The CCD is the part of the camera that captures the image, and usually they distort or do some funky things with the pictures. Its entirely possible they would knock something out of focus.

I have a Conon Powershot S1 IS camera and bought a Transcend Compact Flash 4GB memory card and when I insert in into the camera a red light flashes at the menu and set buttons?

Have your new memory card inserted into your PC to test for any virus. Format the memory car.
Please check if your cannon is adaptive to the 4GB (check the instruction manual) if the card shows the same fault now after inserting.
Use another card into the camera to confirm if the card slot is faulty.

Cannon sd750 digital elph will not charge, either on charger or on pc. would this need a ew battery , it is two years old , advice please much appreciatd

As you've guessed, it's time for a new battery. Rechargeables are only meant to last 1-2 years, regardless of their use. Fortunately, your camera uses the NB-4L battery, for which there are many inexpensive generic altenatives these day. Here's some examples from Amazon. Make sure you read the user reviews before purchasing, as some generics are better than others.

Try setting your camera to mass storage instead ptp.
Reinstall the software of canon. Also see if the camera is in transfer mode rather in shooting mode.
Check if your card is accidently locked somehow.
Always try to load original driver cd and software that came with the camera.

My camera wont stay on after i turn it on

Hi. It can be a problem with flash capacitor. To check if it is the case you should be able to power your camera at least for 10 seconds. If you can not power your camera for this time from batteries, try to use external DC 7.4V 2A power supply. After powering your camera just follow this procedure. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Turn off the flash by pressing flash button (be sure that flash is OFF but not in AUTO regime). 3. Turn off the camera. 4. Turn on the camera. If after these operations camera can be powered from batteries and you can make pictures than the problem is in the flash capacitor which should be replaced. Or you still can make pictures with your camera without using a flash.

Cannon Powershot S1 IS Problem

Depending on how much space between pins you have:
In the old days of computers there were wire wrap tools with a sole purpose for tightly wrapping wire around a metal pin. You might look at trying a wire wrap tool with some thin wire. if you can wrap it, you will be able to pull it.
