you might need to update the software and drivers http://download.cnet.com/midisport-series-audio-interface/3000-2120_4-35271.ht The USB MIDISPORT series is M-Audio's line of bus-powered multi-port interfaces. The MIDISPORT line accommodates lots of gear, and its bus-powered architecture provides the option of totally mobile operation. Features include support for multiple discrete MIDI channels and multiple outputs to transmit discrete MIDI channels. The MIDISPORT line requires no external power and has a compact design for mobile or desktop use
IMPORTANT! If during the install a window pops up regarding "Delsg...", do not continue from that point. Just quit that portion of the installation. Delsg is the uninstall program for the driver that is included with the download. For some reason, Mac OS X 10.5.x is automatically launching after the installation completes.
1) Go to support.wdc.com
2) Click Downloads
3) Select MyBook, then your MyBook model (I selected MyBook Home, as it was appropriate to my hardware)
4) Download and install the WD Drive Manager (Mac)
Note that this software only updates the utilities that control the power button, drive lights, and capacity gauge. If the drive is otherwise not functioning properly, you'll probably need to seek alternate support: the hardware itself functions just fine for me as an external drive without installing any additional software or drivers.
It would help a lot if you had another Midi device to try. Then you could narrow down the problem.
Another thing to try is to download some simple piece of Midi software such as Bome's Mouse keyboard (free 30-day evaluation) and see if you can get that to work (using your mouse on the screen keyboard to trigger notes on your MIDI keyboard). You may get further clues by trying that.
