SOURCE: chemical odor

Hi serena38,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You have a sweet chemical odor in our boat cabin, it leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. You cannot find the source. The fridge does not work. You can smell the odor stronger when the A/C is turned on or when the boat is closed up with the A/C off. Help????

Great, I live on a boat! I can think of two reasons for this. The first and most likly is electrical. Look carefully at the components especially the capaciter, it's on or near the motor. If it is leaking or out gassing, replace it. Wire corrosion can cause a wire to slowly give off fumes. These kinds of problems are common on a boat so look very carefully i.e. testing meter is helpfull here. I've already expirienced this and it sure was hard to find. Less likely is a freon leak. You won't smell the freon itself but if the oil is a little burnt, that can be smelly indeed. You will need a special leak detector for that. Anyway my money is on the electrical.

SOURCE: Ice and Refrigerator and Freezer smell like alcohol chemical

I believe that you might have a coolant leak causing the chemical odor. You really should get it checked out by a fridge repair-person because it's not healthy to breathe in the fumes.

SOURCE: why is there a chemical

the air keeps circulating from the freezer to the fridge,if you put something in the fridge it will make it's way over to the freezer and into the ice,if you have any unwrapped food try covering it,empty the ice and see if that helps, also when was the last time you changed the water filter?there's realy not anything in the machine that would cause this, you can check the ice maker to see if it's rotting out,you might see particles in the cubes but that's about al i can think of.has anybody cleaned out the fridge?if you have cleaning people come in they could have used some kind of cleaner in there.

My ice in a self despence ice maker all the sudden taste like chemicals there is no smell just tast it was good at 1am it's 5am and it taste awful

Dump all the ice in the bin. Then flush the water line by drawing several gallons of water from the water dispenser. You did not say if this is a newly installed system or if it's been hooked up for some time. If it's a new system, perhaps the plastic water line is imparting some taste to the water used to make ice. You could use copper water line instead of the plastic.

The ice from my ice maker has a chemical taste...how do I get rid of it?

Run about 3 cycles of vinegar; then rinse with water. Run regular water through and then the ice should lose the chemical smell and taste.

Kenmore refrigerator model# 70192001 has funny chemical tasting ice

Do you have a water filter, either inline or inside the fridge side? There is nothing in the water lines or valves within the fridge that will contribute to chemical taste. Unless it's just been connected and the line was dirty. It's either your water supply, and if so install a quality inline water filter will help. Some times if the fridge filter is clogged the water flow to the ice maker is restricted and little bubbles get trapped in the ice and they taste off. You should have crystal clear ice. If not get a filter.

Ice maker water taste like chlorine but tap tastes fine

Put a in-line water filter on the water line if you want. The taste is from the food and items you have in the refrigerator. Clean it out and keep your items in proper storage. Ice collects the smells in the line and the fridge. Change your ice that is sitting in the bin, wask out the bin with water and baking soda. Hope this helps.

Fridge has chemical smell

The smells are being pulled in through the air intake from the fridge from the chemicals they used on the floor. As the coating cures, the odor will end. As for the damage to your food and drinks? I would assume if the food tastes like the chemicals, I would avoid eatting them if you do not like the taste )
