SOURCE: Service error 5100?

This error means that there is something obstructing the printing process. Check inside your printer through the gears that you can see under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or in my case popcorn. There was even some paper caught underneath the rollers that I had to jiggle around to even see. Check VERY thoroughly.

5100 is a carriage error, check the timing strip for contamination(plastic strip about 1/4" in width)
The unit is not homing, check for obstructions.
1. clean **** strip film
2. clean **** strip film sensor (back of head carriage)(use contact cleaner)
Also, try this reset procedure:

1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not,
press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal..
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

SOURCE: Solve error 5100.cannon pixma 145 error always out # 5100

5100 error is a carriage error. Could be caused by the carriage unit, timing strip, logic board or carriage motor. Check that nothing is obstructing the carriage from moving freely and that the clear timing strip is ok.

Hi You can Try
Another old posting
Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Canon ip1600 error 5100

First, reseat your ink cartridges.
if reseating your printer cartridges doesn't work, keep looking for things that would cause the printing head carriage (the thing the print cartridges sit in) to not function properly.

Canon IP4000 Error Code 5100

It is a carriage error.
Most times this is a serious error that requires a Canon tech to fix it.
Look at the carriage and see if there is something obstructing it's movement. If you recently had a paper jam, there may be some paper stuck in the path.
You should be able to move the carriage freely with the power off.
Let me know.
