I am not able to kickstart a server without using a cd.We have tried doing the same on isolated network but it didn't work. The on-screen error is: Error opening: kickstart file /tmp/ks.cfg: No such file or directory From /var/log/messages: jhbkickstart73 in.tftpd[5669]: tftp: client does not accept options

Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy disk
* CD/DVD drive
* internal disk-drive
* USB memory-stick
* over the network, if it can find a "boot-server" on the local network.
So, the 'PXE failure' and 'check cable' errors occur either because there is no cable connected to the network-port, or because there is no "boot-server" on your network.
Enter BIOS setup, and check the "order" of possible boot-devices,
to ensure that the "network-boot" device is set to the _lowest_ priority.
What this could mean is that the computer *TRIED* to boot from the disk-drive, but *FAILED* to do so, i.e., you have a problem with the disk-drive in your computer. Ouch!
PXE means Pre-Boot Execution Environment. You see this message when the
laptop trying to boot from a remote server using the network card. If
you didn’t see the PXE-E61 message before, it means that the network
card was listed after the hard drive in the boot order (you can set the
order in BIOS) and the laptop booted directly from the hard drive. Now,
when the hard drive has failed, the laptop cannot detect it and tries
to boot from the next available device – the network card. Your laptop
is not configured to boot from a remote server using the network card,
that’s why you are getting PXE-E61 Media test failure error.
You have
to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system?
Analyzing the minidump might help, but that requires a little tech understanding. Did you try loading the default bios settings to see if timing is a problem? It looks like it could also be a temperature problem, so try opening the cabinet and see it the problems consist. Also check if all fans are running.
If you're using any any flavor of redhat (RHEL, CentOS, Fedora), this can be easily done using kickstart. It's a preconfiguration utility to allow a user to simply type a single one line command after booting from a cd, and completely install a whole server remotely. Comment back with your linux distro, and maybe I can give more specific details. Steven
