The drive belt on a F/L washer is normally quite tight and when installed will need to stretch slightly to maintain it's tension.
If you have the correct belt you should be able to make it fit by fitting it onto the motor pulley and then holding it onto the large pulley while at the same time rotating it to get it in place.
Make sure you have the correct belt by checking the belt length. The belts will have a series of numbers which should compare, even if the brands differ.
A belt which is too tight can cause the motor bearing to fail prematurely.
Good luck.

I have a kohler heated and jetted cast iron tub i just installed turned it on and i have nothing. I have checked the power all good 220 volts. Still nothing. When the guy unloaded it he dropped it hard on...

I would check all the connections to the pump. Make sure all electrical connections are tight. Outside of that the pump may be broken if it was dropped REALLY hard.

Need to replace drum belt

Most dryers have a tensioner pulley that the belt needs to go around to keep it tight. The belt goes around the motor pulley and the drum, but it goes around the tensioner pulley in a way that would keep it tight (you also need to release the tension on the tensioner to get the belt around it) If there's not a tensioner pulley there has to be some other means of putting tension on that belt, look around the the other pulleys that the belt goes around.

I need to know how to install the new belt

The following link explains how to install the belt on a Whirlpool Duet front loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3059652-drive_belt_installation_whirlpool_duet

This is an easy process, but it may take some effort to get the belt on the pulley. It is designed for a tight fit in order for the belt to stay in place on the tub pulley with no play in it. There is no tensioner and you do not loosen any motor mounts. Just make sure you hold the belt tightly in place with your hands and turn the entire tub pulley (like a steering wheel) in a clock-wise direction. The belt will stay on after you turn the pulley far enough for it to grip and stay in place.

If you have not purchased a replacement belt yet, the part number for the model you have this listed under is 8181670.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool cabrio dryer belt falls off after install

If you're turning the drum backwards the belt will fall off. Make sure you're turning the same direction the motor will spin it.

Whirlpool Stylemaster 4217141 tub not moving wash/spin cycles

Sounds like the drive belt is broken or very loose. Take off the back and check the belt. If loose or missing, tighten or replace. This is usually done by loosening the motor support bolts and moving the motor until the belt is tight, then re-tighten the bolts. Replace belt in the same way.

Broken belt

Hi ya,

Replacing the belt on some whirlpool Washing machines.

remove lower access panel. remove the 3 screws securing the pump and remove pump from motor shaft. The pump should drop low enough that you will not need to remove the pump hoses. Once the pump is removed, the belt can be installed around the motor pulley and idler. Replace pump.

Hi mate the answer to your question is that all belts should be tight but could be a clue to your fault where the belt is slack check to see if there is bushing is worn see if there is play on the shaft if so replace the unit
