Computer wont start up...

It means it cannot find it's operating system or windows to start. When a PC boots it checks for boot devices, usually the floppy, then cdrom, then hard drive, if there is a disk in the floppy or if your pc is set to boot from cdrom and there is a disc in it - it will say OS not found.
The second possible cause is something has happened to windows - either the hard drive has failed or windows has lost it's startup files. If the drive appears to be normal and chatters slightly on startup ( a light clicking noise) then possibly running the original windows install disc and reinstallin windows should fix the problem, on 98 or ME you can re-install, on 2000 or XP try the recover/repair option first.

Formatting IBM Thinkpad 600E

I know you can't boot from the Windows 98 CD, and probably not from Windows 2000 either. It is possible to turn the the Windows 98 bootable floppy into a bootable CD, but I think you would be much better of trying to install Linux.

I try to boot my computer from a windows 98 disc, but it won't lo

Hi matthewbugbe,

I think what that means is it does not recognize your hard drive. If you are trying to install Windows 98 you should format your drive first.

I think i converted to fat 32 now laptop is a mess! compaq evo n400c.

You have to completely reinstall the Operating System on your laptop at this point but I would re-install either Windows 2000 or XP since you will have less problem with wireless drivers, printer drivers, plug ins, etc. Make sure you have a valid Windows CD with serial numbers. After that place Windows XP CD into CD-ROM and Reboot. And you dont have to worry about converting to fat32 as Windows 2000 or XP is already a fat32 file system. Read the prompts when it comes up and answer with appropriate answers..

Go to this page and download the file for your Operating System whether it's Windows XP, 2000, or 98 from the External Mirror 1, 2 or 3
http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/LEXMARK-Printer-X6150-Version-10120-Download-1420.html
Save the file to your computer then double click on it and follow the directions to install the print driver.
When it's done your printer should work.

I have the Windows 98 disk not have lost the key codes, I am trying to reinstall this onto a new hard drive with no operating system so I can then upgrade to windows xp, help anyone?

You don't need a windows 98 disk to install XP. It will load directly from your Cd drive. You have to set the bios to be the first boot disk. It is much easier to install XP on an empty drive than to upgrade.
