Make sure you have all your data backed up
Also make sure you have your re installation disk and proper cd keys to perform a clean install.
power your unit - press F9 for boot options - insert your 7 disk into cd rom and choose boot from CD-ROM. Follow instructions provided from install disk.
It is a 2005 machine and was designed for Vista so an upgrade from Vista to Win7 may work as the drivers will need updating as it loads one OS from the other OS. A bios update would possibly help also.
Go to device manager> dvd drive and properties check the dvd drive details and download the corrsponding firm ware HERE then update to the latest Bios HERE Dont forget to say thanks!
Yes it is possiable to install Windows OS on the machine.
you would need an unpartitioned space on the Hard disk depending on the OS.
Win xp : 900 MB
Win Vista: 1.5 GB
Win 7 : 2 GB
you would also need a windows bootable disk.
once you have the above, change the first boot device in the bios DVD, insert the bootable CD in the CD Drive, restart the computer and follow the screen instructions
To install a new OS like windows 7/Vista/XP set your laptop to boot from CD/DVD in BIOS put the disk in and boot your laptop then follow the on screen instructions. This will normally wipe the hole laptop unless you are planing on dual booting in this case you will need a free partition or hard drive to install the 2nd OS and it normal cases have the lower OS installed 1st
to reset the BIOS, there is a small battery somewhere in your computer. if you unplug it for 3 seconds, it will reset the BIOS. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT TRY THIS! get a service professional. If this doesn't work you might need to get a new laptop.
Do this to be sure that your dvd drive is still being recognized by your laptop. Turn on your laptop and go into your BIOS. Once your in there look to see if its listed in there. If it is then you know for sure that the laptop is recognizing it properly and that its a windows 7 issue.
If the dvd is not recognized in the BIOS then what you need to do is with the power off. Take out the dvd drive completely and reseat it back into its slot. Then turn the laptop on, go back into the BIOS and see if its recognized in the BIOS now. If its still not recognized in the BIOS then that means the dvd drive is bad and would need to be replaced.
As far as drivers are concerned and that you verified that the dvd drive is recongized in the BIOS, you may not be able to get drivers because windows 7 is not out for the public yet and drivers may not be available, you can always check the manufacuter of your dvd drive and go to there website to get drivers but since windows 7 is not out yet to the public your chances of getting a driver for it are slim.
