My printer shows error message that there is no paper in tray when it is full, and it will not print from the tray at all. I have tried turning the printer off and on multiple times, and taken the paper out and put it back in several times, but nothing seems to work. It started to print once, but after one page, it then said I had a paper jam and when I checked, there was one page on top of the paper stack that just didn't get pushed through for some reason. After I repositioned the paper, I got the same error message as in the beginning -- no paper in tray. I'm not sure what else to try.

Great solution here,i was having the exact same problem to the point where i was going to send it back. When you select your paper under general setup on your printer, glossy, plain, inkjet.you must also select the same, glossy, plain, inkjet under printing preferences when you select what printer your going to use.
SOURCE: Ink cartridge (not) installed properly
unplug machine from power outlet. take all carts out. wait 5 min. plug machine to power. wait until machine demands carts. reinsert carts and make sure they are secured. answer display when asked if you have changed.
If you still have the error message use a original brother cart.

please try this
alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
SOURCE: No Paper Message- when the tray if full
When removing the tray - turn off printer -
insert try with paper - turn on printer -
you should notice the blue paper meter moving. fixed
SOURCE: Forces manual feed of paper whenever printing WordPerfect doc
Is a WordPerfect problem.
In WordPerfect go to file/page setup/select letter (or whatever)/edit/source - set to auto select.
Problem solved!
