Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Are you able to confirm whether your DC07 includes the brush control feature or not? The brush control would be a round dial on the cleaner head which allows you to turn off the brush bar when cleaning hard floors or delicate rugs.

If your DC07 does include brush control, make sure that when the vacuum cleaner is turned on and reclined, the brush control is set to 'Carpets'. The brush bar will never rotate when the brush control is set to 'Hard floors', or when the machine is standing in the upright position.

If you're confident your machine is already set correctly but the brush bar is still not rotating, or if your DC07 is a version which doesn't include the brush control feature, we'd appreciate the opportunity to provide further assistance.

I'd encourage you to give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call when you have your DC07 easily to hand so we can take you though some simple troubleshooting checks. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Brush bar does not turn when unit is turned on, belt is intact and no noticeable defects.

LOts of these units have a switch for brush or you have to pull back on the handle to start brush.

Hope this helps Mike

Beater brush stopped moving

First. Looking from the rear of the hoover forward, right side on main unit there is a large knob with signs, turn clockwise or anti clockwise.

If there is still no motion, check drive band is intact.

You can have a service man call from dyson £60.00 or there abouts, I believe this service includes all parts and labour.

Belt is intact but brush won't turn

Even though the belt is intact it can still be stretched or worn and will not turn the brush on the carpet. Here are the belts you need:

Brush not turning

The belt doesn't have to be broken to be non-functioning. If the belt is intact but stretched it won't turn the brush. You can get belts here:

Hoover Elite Rewind - powerhead brushes are not turning

most likely band is broken. Usually there is a spare in the box or on the unit when new. Unscrew 2-3 screws by beater bar (brushes) pull off cover and replace band.

The brush bar on my Dyson DC17 stopped turning.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.

Bissel pro heat /brushes do not turn

Belt worn or hair build up can clog it from spinning. I've seen this on other models. Just remove the hair slowly. If the Belt is worn you can replace that from Bissel or any store that sells their product.

Check to ensure that the pump belt and brush belt are intact and installed according to the instructions provided in the User's Guide.

The pump belt is located under the belt access door on the side of the machine. This belt should be looped around the red pulley and the silver motor shaft.

To check the brush belt, please follow these directions:

Turn the machine OFF and unplug from the wall outlet.

Step on the handle release pedal to lay the handle down on the floor.

Remove the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle and set them aside.

Turn the machine over to expose the brush.

Look for the red retainer plates, which hold the black brush arms in place. Remove the two Phillips head screws to access the toothed brush belt. Check to ensure the belt is intact and looped around the brush end, as well as the red pulley with the ridges.

Remove any dirt or debris from the brush assembly.
Inspect brush, brush arms, red brush arm retainers and red pulley for damage and replace parts if applicable.
