How do you remove the terminal screws on a MTH-4000?

check for bad battery, loose terminals ,dirty terminals , faulty starter relay
if it is not starting check for oil level is correct ( low oil level sensor turns off ), diesel -air in system

MTH locomotives have internal batteries that may need to be replaced. The circuit boards in some older MTH locomotives can be damaged if operated with discharged or faulty batteries. Contact MTH customer service for help with your engines.

Terminal block is fastened/secured with body by a screw but before removing the terminal block from body, make sure that the iron element terminals are also disconnected. this can be done by opening the screws on other side of the cord terminals-3 in number as also in the cord. Otherwise the terminal block would not come out fully.In any case you normally do not need to remove the terminal block.

1) If circuit breaker is not tripped or shorted, then timer clock motor has probably gone bad.

2) Some places still sell paragon timers, depending on model number.
But model number given is for 240Volt timer.

3) The clock motor is not available that I can find.

4) Model number given does not match wiring terminals shown in manual.
4014 is DPST 240Volt timer with 4 wiring terminals labeled 1 2 3 4.

5) Paragon 4000 series timer with terminals 1 2 3 is 120Volt timer.

6) Replace 120Volt timer with Intermatic T101 indoor timer or T101R outdoor timer.
Crossover wiring:
Paragon terminal 1 goes to Intermatic terminal 1
Paragon terminal 2 goes to Intermatic terminal 2
Paragon terminals 3 goes to Intermatic terminal A

There are 3 terminals 1 2 3
Black Hot wire from circuit breaker goes to terminal 1
Black wire to Load (light, fan, motor) goes to terminal 2
Whites wires connect to terminal 3

hi thanks for the question .2 screws at the bottom of front panel remove remove front 2 3/8 screws under the top at front remove & lift top .thaks the appliance doc

It should have a cover on the floor bottom that is held in place with two torx (star) screws. remove the cover and you can remove the plug with a 9/16 socket.

There could be screws behind the battery area if you haven't found so. If it doesn't come out then you gotta remove the bezel on the top of the keyboard... might need some preying be careful plastics break easily. when you get the bezel off then you might see some screws holding the keyboard down and now remove those and be careful not to destroy and of the white ribbons they are extremely hard to replace if broken.

On the vacuum line that operates the advance on the dizzy, there is a plastic piece that controls the upshift light, it has a two terminal connector and an adjusting screw on one side. Today I bypassed this piece, my car revs willingly past th 4000 mark and continues to build power. I assume this piece or the small hose it uses was leaking. Sweet.
