When the rotor has been replaced, you will need to reset the clearance at the top of the rotor and the pump body for the correct operation, details can be found in your manual. Too wide a gap and you will have low pressure, to small a gap and there is the risk of damaging or scoring the new parts. Once the heater is running, adjust the air pressure so that the flame is staying just inside the combustion chamber or just around the edge of the end plate. It should be red hot and burning without any smell or un-burnt fuel. Damage will be caused to the combustion chamber if the flames come out the end like a jet engine, as well as being dangerous. It's not really necessary to use an actual pressure gauge, use the performance as your guide. Pressure gauges are a useful diagnostic tool if repairing heaters is your business, because you can immediately tell if the fault is caused by air pressure or other problems.

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer sport track, the oil pressure gauge went to zero back 1 month ago, we changed the oil sending unit, no change. Any ideas on what next?
You need to get an actual pressure test on the block to get an actual reading, because I would hate for you to have lubrication problems in the engine and blow the engine. If the gauge is stuck on zero try with the engine off and key on, ground the sending unit wire to the block and see if the gauge pegs to full. If it does not, replace the gauge and get it calibrated if it needs calibrating.

Check sending unit, Ford/Mercury put out a TSB, technical service bulletin : Article No. 95-13-2 07/03/95, on erratic temp sender units.
You troubleshoot as follows :
  1. Turn ignition switch to On or ACC position.
  2. Connect a 10 ohm resistor between gauge lead and ground. The centerline of pointer should fall within the band around the H mark.
  3. Connect a 73 ohm resistor between gauge lead and ground. The centerline of pointer should fall within the band around the C mark.
  4. If gauge tests within calibration, replace sender.
  5. If gauge is out of calibration, replace gauge.

Hi. I have a 1990 c1500 silverado. Originally it had a manual gear box which was replaced with a turbo 700R4. Now ive put in a new engine and a turbo400. the T700 came with an electronic pulse generator...
I would use the electris set up for a 400,they were availiable in the late 80s and you can still get the parts.The rotor(tone) is different that 700 because inside hole is larger.You can buy a kit from GM to reprogram the cluster to match tire size and ratio.Calibration Kit - 25085515

Does the fuel gauge need to be calibrated after replacing the fuel pump assembly unit? And which oxygen sensor needs to be replaced when you have a significant drop in MPG and the exhaust smells rich?
Fuel gauge should not need to be calibrated. As for the o2 sensor, it would be the front one more than likely. I would also check to make sure that the Mass Air Flow sensor is not causing the problem before just putting o2 sensors in. Is your check engine light on?

Can't be calibrated. If you do decide to replace it, just as a warning, the whole curcuit board in there will need to be replaced, and that item is a manufacturer speciality item, so a Ford garage will be the only place you will be able order one from, and it will be expensive.

My 2004 gmc envoy stalls when sitting at the light or idling to long
premium gas is a waste of money. domestically produced and sold cars are actually calibrated for econo gas. well, based on what you told me and the type of vehicle, i'd invest in some well-needed maintainence (COMPLETE tune up with AC Delco platinum plugs, fuel filter, air filter, pcv, cap and rotor) don't skimp on cap quality either- told ya -they're problem-prone. BUT with the "check gauges" light coming on, my bet is you're experiencing the warning signs of imminent fuel pump failure. gas gauge been bouncing or not reading accurately?
