I had a Maytag washer almost 5 years old that sounded like a Jet Engine taking off during the spin cycle. It was the Tub Bearing - there are kits to do this yourself. To hire someone it would of cost almost as much as it would be to buy a new Washing machine. Never again Maytag

If you let it go too long your going to wind up flooding underneath the washing machine with Brown gunk

Top Loader? That sounds like a gearbox problem. It is not an easy fix. With that much use and those many years, it is probably time for a new one. A new High Efficiency Front Loader, will save you a fortune in water, electricity and detergent.

The loud noises seem to be a feature of newer front loading machines. We bought a Maytag and have had similar issues since day 1. We were told the bearings are the problem. They don't last and make major noise as they wear.

sounds like water has got past the seals and into the upper bearing.if this is the case you will hear a loud roaring noise during the spin cycle.not a cheap fix!
