Hi Stacy:
I'd be suspicious that it's not getting fuel, but considering the age of the machine............ probably time for a methodical maintenance check.
Spark plugs (if gas). condition and check for spark.
Did this only happen once, or if you leave it for a while, will it start again and then die?
You may be able to find a forum of owners of these machines.

you may need to check that your blade engage sensor is working properly, and that the one on the seat is working properly. if not that, then check the ignition fuse connections. they may seem to be connected properly, and still not be seated properly. good luck.
Hi, if it has a fuel shut off solenoid in the bottom of the carby bowl check that it is getting 12 volts with the key in both the start and run positions. If so check that the solenoid is clicking when you turn the key on and off. If not you will need to replace the solenoid. Hope this helps, regards Phil.
when you turn the key on to the run positon do you hear a clicking sound coming from the carburator? this tractor is equipped with a fuel shut off solenoid on the carburator if you dont hear the clicking sound solenoid is either not getting 12vdc or it is defective.
