Question about Brother Sewing Machines

How do I thread my twin needle on my SQ9185 machine correctly so as not to break the needle again. The diagram in the manual is a little "sketchy".

With twin needles

you thread the first needle like you would a single needle and then you thread the 2nd needle then same way

make sure the setting are fixed for a twin needle

Rethread the machine following these directions:
all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever,then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side,the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.
Remove the bobbin case and bobbin. Pull on the bobbin thread to make sure it doesn't pull too hard. It should have some tension on it but not a lot. Insert the bobbin and bobbin case into the hook assembly and pull on the bobbin thread again.The tension should still be about the same. If it is tight, you need to look at the bottom of the pin that the bobbin case sits on and see if there are any threads looped around it. If there are , you need to remove them.
Hold the top thread , turn the hand wheel and see if the thread is catching someplace around the hook assembly. If it pulls the thread up easily, put some fabric in it and see how it works.
Make sure the thread is through the take up lever.

In general, there are three main causes for this...
wrong needles (Singer), low quality thread (dual duty or all purpose), incorrect threading. Be sure to thread the needle from front to back.

SOURCE: Needle will not pick up thread from bobbin on a Brother's machine

This is going to sound silly but its one of the first things I check for... make sure that the needle is in correctly make sure that the flat side is towards the back as you place it in the needle clamp. better yet take the needled out all together and put a new one in just to be sure that it isnt bend

Twin needles can be used on any machine. Just make sure you use the correct presser foot......one that allows both needles to work without hitting the foot. Also.........you cannot zig-zag or use any other fancy stitch with a twin needle.......it is strictly for straight sewing. You have to use 2 spools of thread .....thread your machine with both threads as if they were one thread but separate the threads when you get to the needle. There is no change to the bobbin. Happy sewing. I can't be bothered to go to all this trouble so I just sew 2 rows to get the same look. Ofcourse you have to be very good at sewing perfectly straight seams doing it this way. Try both methods on a scrap and see which method you prefer.

How do i set the top tension for quilting on my brother sq9185

You will want to adjust the top tension for quilting like you do for other sewing. The tension is correct when the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric (or quilt). Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread.

Probably depends on the model. Was a twin needle included with your starter kit?

BTW, you are using 2 spools of thread, right? You need to thread both needles with separate spools (do not twist the threads when threading!).

Thread breaks on the 2340CV Brother. Doing two needle and the right needle is breaking at the needle. Change needle and retreaded several times

Probably depends what that needle is hitting that is causing it to break. Make sure the presser foot and the needle plate hole are large enough to accommodate the twin needle. Twin needles come in different widths so if yours is too wide, it would break. However, it could be possible that your machine is slightly out of alignment that does not show up until you try to use a twin needle. Also, make sure that your thread is not causing the needle to break--could be misthreading. Some machines have separate guides and tension disks for twin threads. Those that don't have that accommodation may have more difficulty using a twin needle.

Why is my Brother SQ9185 Sewing Machine thread bunching up on the back side of the fabric?

That is called thread nesting or bird nesting. Usually it is because it is threaded incorrectly (sometimes the thread jumps out of a thread guide or the take-up lever), the upper thread is not seated in the tension disk, or the upper tension is incorrect.

First thing, install a brand new needle.
Second, remove the upper thread, RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning--make sure the correct thread path is followed.
Third, check that the upper tension is set at the midway point between high & low number.

Test. Adjust the upper tension as needed. Re-test. Tension is correct when the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Search the internet for:
Manufacturer + Model + the word "Manual"

or search YouTube videos for "sewing machine threading." You may not find your exact machine, but many machines have similar threading patterns. Be sure to raise the presser foot before threading the upper thread so it will seat properly in the tension disk.

If the thread is breaking at the needle, it could be several problems:
Threaded incorrectly--#1 cause
Upper tension too tight
Install a brand new needle compatible with the fabric & thread
Make sure the thread is not too large for the needle eye
Avoid old, fuzzy, bargain bin thread

How do i thread my janome seeing machine

You will have to refer to the threading diagram in the manual to verify if the machine is threaded correctly, but also make sure you are using a new, undamaged needle. The smallest burr on the needle will cause frequent thead breakage. Plan to change the needle before each new project.

White 2037 twin needle keeps breaking thread

Thread breakage occurs commonly with mis-threading. Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread. Also, since you are using 2 threads, thread one completely and then thread the other so the threads do not get twisted in the thread path. If your machine has duel tension disks, thread each tension disk separately with a single thread. Setting the thread spools to turn opposite directions may help.

Also, make sure the needle eye is the right size for the thread. Thick or thin thread could break easily in the wrong needle.

Also, use only good quality thread--no bargain bin or old threads!

Make sure the needle is inserted in the machine properly- a good rule of thumb is the flat side of the needle should go to the opposite side of the last thread guide. Also make sure the machine is threaded correctly. If all checks out ok,

How about chainging the tension setting? Check your the diagram in your manual to see which dial to turn to change the tension. If it's set too high that could be what is causing your thread to break

I have for gotten how to make the machine sew and im having trouble threading a bobbin for my moms machine elna 7000 i need a manual or a quick note to get started

Just remember to click the bobbin thread into the tension device correctly and hold the two threads behind the pressure foot when you start each seam - Elna top loading bobbins give great stitch quality but you just need to keep stray threads out or they'll jam up.

Also, you must use the Elna plastic bobbin that the manual specifies for this machine - the 5000, 7000 and 9000 were Elna Tavaro Switzerland's first foray into computerised machines and first released in 1986.

Also, please check the manual when you go to buy twin needles, there are two types now as computerised machines usually need the twin needles offset from the shaft position. They have red or black plastic block between the shaft and the twin needles - I think you need the red ones but just double check the manual to make sure. And you can't do all the wide stitches with a twin needle as it will strike the foot.
