How to stop and cancel printing on brother Hl-2240d printer on a Mac Pro computer

Are you sure you are using the correct driver for your OS? Did you print out a test page to make sure all is fine with printer?

Try this Toner reset sequence (worked on Brother HL-5350DN)
With Printer off open the toner door
Hold the Go button as you turn the printer on.
All lights will turn on. Keep holding Go until status light goes off.
Press the Go button 2x.
The Paper, Drum & Toner light will come on
Press Go 6x
Status light will turn red
Close the front.

I would guess you were trying to print a spread sheet or similar. It has nothing to do with the reset gear on the cartridge. You need to open your printers folder on the computer, open the print queue for the printer, and cancel all documents waiting to be printed. That may take more than one try. When you are ready to print again, be sure you know what is to be printed before committing.

Have you tried resetting it? I can't remember all the steps, I see some of the other comments have them but just to be sure you didn't miss anything I suggest you download the manual and go step-by-step. You can find one here - Brother HL-2270DW manual

You cancel prints in the computer.

If you tried to print something that is still pending and you need to get it out of the print queue follow these instructions:

On the lower right side of your computer screen near the clock area - look for the printer icon (picture of your printer) Right click with your mouse on top of the picture of the printer and choose "properties" from the drop down list. Click on the name of the document that you wish to cancel and click file and click on cancel document. You can also click on the name of the document you want to cancel and then right click on it again and choose cancel from the drop down list.

You may need to choose cancel all documents to get rid of any which are pending.

You need to shutdown the computer and the printer. Then turn the printer on first then the computer. It should stop. Let me know results.
