Cannot get reds or purples to accurately show on display or when developed in hard copy. Reds show pink. Purples show blue. Tried a number of things but no luck

On page 77 of the manual is the WB settings.

To start (quick check if nothing is wrong with the camera) put it in automatic mode. Put the mode dial in Auto or SR Auto.
No other option. Then shoot some pictures. these should have a normal colour.

the ink may be low quality

Ground maybe.

That sounds like a picture tubeproblem and because to the cost of these old monitors it is cheaper just to buy a new flat screen than to try and repair that old one.

REPLACE THE LCD LIGHT ENGINE

Could of been solved by buying a Canon.

haveyou tried shutting it down and restarting it? it may just be the screen going bad
