Ever had a hedge trimmer break because you hit a fence or something ... HEDGE TRIMMER REPAIR "how to sharpen hedge trimmer blades" ...
Purchase precut pieces of string. Check the dealer or or big box store for the correct part. The precut string is easily clipped in. Remove the old piece by pushing back and lifting up on the piece until it comes loose. Put the new piece in the slot and pull it forward to seat it. Repeat for the other side(s)
Hi Mark
Perhaps a bit late now.... Just spotted this so I imagine it's all fixed by now.
But for others with this sort of problem.
Assuming the pull cord is not broken, stuck or tangled. Switch off or short plug to ground, for safety then remove the spark plug to allow the engine compression to escape. You should be able to turn the engine over really easy with the pull rope, otherwise the engine might be seized or the rotary pull mechanism jammed.
Also... can the shaft to the string line be rotated as in the crankshaft of the engine.
Good Luck
That must be a pretty thick forest there Bella, Sounds like there is a jam somewhere if the thing is that new just take it back where you purchased it and they have to give you a new one or at least fix it the customer is always rite remember that..... I you tamper with those nuts you could void any possible warranty you might still have.
The line on my new 26cc Homelite would also feed out by itself. That started me thinking the line was wound backwards. I wrapped the line in the opposite direction as was shown on the bump feed reel and now the dang thing works although the bump feed needs to be "bumped" pretty hard to work. Is it possible that the reel was manufactured with the (string direction) arrows pointing the wrong direction? The new 26cc unit is also underpowered compared to my older 25cc trimmer.
Have to take all 3 plastic covers (housings) off to get to the spring and tie the new pull rope or change the spring. Just did mine, spring just unlatched and string wouldn't retract. Did not have to by any new parts....works great! Took me 1 hour to get it done.
