Rheem/GE power vent water heater, pilot lites, but not the main

I have a Rheem/GE power vent waterhtr 40 gallon. Been working fine until now. The t'stat calls for hot water and sends a signial to the controler to start the blower and pre-purge the chamber and then to stay on. Then the ignitor starts to send 25KVDC to the pilot and the pilot does light, but the main burner never comes on. The LED flashes the code that its calling for hot water and everything seems to be working fine, just the main burner won't come on. I don't smell LP gas at the pilot opening nor outside near the power vent. Call the service tech and they said to pull the main burner line off the gas valve and check for blockage, if not blocked, turn the gas back on and let the system start and check for gas flow from the main gas valve. Of course being very careful and to shut it off once the odor of LP gas is present. I have no other trouble codes coming up. I believe it's the main gas valve since the unit will run for hours due to the pilot being iginited and the control thinks that everything is fine and is just waiting for the water to get hot for the t'stat to open and shut of the system. Anyone else have a problem like this? Thanks, Dan

Hi, thank you for the feedback. I believe the blower switch is made, I pulled the tube off the switch and the blower and water heater shutdown, but I plan on check it electrically.

I would check to see if the switch on the blower pressure sensor is closing...When T-stat calls for flame, the circuit starts the blower, then the blower pressure sensor switch closes to allow the main gas valve to be powered.

Rheem NatGas hot water heater model 41V50, basement flooded pilot went our how do I relight?

At the controls there should be a knob that says " Pilot"... "ON" Turn the knob to pilot and hold it down while lighting the pilot lite. Keep holding it down until it gets warm enough that when you leave it up the pilot stays on. Once the pilot lite stays on on it's own turn it to on.

That is a power vent failure code.
Rheem is aware of this problem and are changing systems as we speak. Call your Rheem dealer and demand the updated system.

I have a Rheem 40 gal. tank that is leaking water front the top where the vent stack is. It is pouring out. Can it be repaired?

A leaking water heater cannot be repaired, assuming it's the tank leaking and not nearby water pipe.

First thing is to protect your property from catastrophic tank failure where tank ruptures and water runs until it is shut off:
Tanks are under pressure when they are hot.
Close cold water shut-off located above tank.
Turn control knob to 'pilot' so pilot is lit but burner will not turn on.
Open hot side on tub for few moments to relieve tank pressure.

Now your property is safe.
You need a new water heater.
In mean time, gas water heater makes 41 gallons hot water per hour.
Shower used 5-9 gallons hot water.
Bath uses 10-15 gallons hot water.
You can turn on water heater for short stretches and limp by until you get a new heater.

Rheem power vent motor doesn't shut off

There could be blockage in your water heaters venting on the outside of the home. It sound like the high limit switch has been tripped. Try unplugging the tank and plugging it back in. this will reset the tank. if the problem persists you will want to call your provider for service.

Rheem Mod. # 21I50DV Pilot lites, burner ingites then goes off with pilot light.

I would suspect your sensor (in what ever form it takes) is not working. (Thermocouple?)
