Trying to install 8x external dvd/cd writer cannot find driver

If it is just a writer then no but I have never heard of just a writer and mostly they are designated a reader/writer when they should be able to read whatever they are capable of writing - if the computer has the right software installed that is.

It could be you need to instal a suitable media player or dvd player software.

External hardware either comes with a setup disc containing the drivers, or Windows Drivers in the Win32sys has them pre-installed. Other than that, try the manufactures web site for updates to the hardware drivers for Win7.

You don't need drivers for an external usb case.
Your ultra book should recognize the dvd writer once it is installed in the case. It will assign a drive letter to it.

most likely its an incompatibility between the media and your drive. try another brand of disk.

I checked up on it a little and it looks like netbooks don't come with the required codecs for DVD audio.
