This model comes with preloaded map of UK and Ireland only. If you want to get different city maps, charge is applied. Go to the Nuvi 2300 site and choose your maps and then download to a memory card after you paid.

Garmin nuvi 255w missing postcode search

On my Nuvi 200, after "Where To?", you have to select "Address". My instruction book says: 2.Change the state, country or province if necessary. 3.Touch "Spell City", enter the city/postal code, and touch "Done". Select the city/postal code in the list. (Not all map data provides postal code searching). If you are unsure of the city, touch "Search All". There are further steps, but "Depending on the version of maps loaded on your nuvi, the button names can change and some steps could be ordered differently".

Hi, do you know if I can install City Select maps I bought for a previous Garmin device now out of order, on a new Garmin 1490T preloaded with City Navigator ? thanks

If you want to test the maps on your new Garmin you can do one of two things. Either you can copy the maps onto an SD card and then insert the card into your GPS. You can also connect the GPS to your computer with the USB cable that was supplied with you unit. Using whatever file manager you normally use with your version of Windows (Windows Explorer, Total Commander, etc), you will be able to see your Garmin GPS as another drive on your system. You can then copy your City Select maps over to your Garmin.

Once you have the maps either directly on your Garmin GPS or on a microSD card, you have to choose to use those maps. From the main screen of your GPS choose Tools>Settings>Map. If your City Select maps are compatible with your GPS they will show up in the list of maps. To make use of the map just choose it by touching the name of the map. Your Garmin will then load that map and display it. If your City Select maps do not show up in the list, or if you choose them and they do not load or give you an error then they are not compatible with your 1490T.

If you need anymore information or help please let me know. Thank you.

My Garmin Nuvi 205w with USA maps wouldn't let me enter the State of California when I recently visited there. Every time I got as far as entering Ca in the state/province section, it would instantly go to...

If you are using the USA maps make sure its the City Navigator North American NT

Seem to me it is still working with your map from the Carribean, this would have to be changed in the map area located on you nuvi, it will only give you one map of that country at a time.

When you visit you must change it here..... Tools.... Settings...Maps...on bottom of screen press Map Info

when in the USA always have City Navigator North American NT checked and uncheck your area

Question about entering address

First enter the state and then the city.

There are several cities with the same name in different states and therefore the street names would be different. However if you are first entering the state and then the city and the street name dosent show , then you will need to update the map on the GPS. For this you will need to contact customer service.

Downloading mapsets

Every time you download it wipes the entire memory card. You have to select all the maps you want stored on the card each time you add a new map. To keep from selecting all the maps everytime you want to download you can save the file in your mapsource software then just add or delete maps from your original map list.

All the mapsets that are installed in your PC should appear in the menu bar on a dropdown list. If you click on it you should see "bluechart" city navigator" etc, if you installed them correctly.

Choose one of the map sets, such as bluechart, from the dropdown list and all the maps from that set should appear on the screen.

As you select individual maps from the map set they will be loaded onto a maplist wich should appear under a tab on the left side of your computer screen.

Then go back to the menu bar and pick your next mapset, such as city navigator. A new map set will appear on the screen but the maps you selected from the previous set will still be on the map list on the left side of the screen.

I hope this helps. Please reply if you have questions about my response.
