I believe the ignition timing is fixed on that motor, via a pickup on the crankshaft

My 1986 Dodge motor home keeps running and backfiring after shutting engine off?

You can find out the tune up specifications by using the engine id numbers. 1st Check the timing! The engine sounds like it is trying to "diesel", which simpy means running with no source of spark. (A diesel uses compression in place of spark plugs). A Hot gasoline engine can produce these systems if something in the combustion chamber remains hot enough to ignite (or "fire") the cylinder(s) with the the ignition turned off.

My guess is your engine is firing too early (ignition timing) and the spark plugs are getting too hot! The longer or harder the engine works, the worse this condition will be.

GOOD LUCK

What is causing engine spark knock?

Are you using lower grade gasoline than what is recommended? If it is an older car, you require the recommended gas octane type. In newer vehicles, you don't have to worry about this as the engine will self adjust to the gas type wether it's lower or higher grade than what is needed.

Do I need to adjust the timing on my Isuzu KB 260 when I change from leaded to unleaded fuel?

You should not have to adjust the timing. The timing dictates when the cylinder will receive its spark to ignite the fuel in the chamber.

I hope that you have found this information to be useful, and if I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. Thank you for using fixya!

Car is running idle then suddenly stopped

You can check the folllowing reasons ,
(1) no oil or gasoline tank electric fuel pump is not working;
(2) Ignition system component damage, can not ignite;
(3) engine ignition system, fuel system or control system power fuse has blown;
(4) the timing belt break.

2002 vespa px 200 seems to misfire splutter at full throttle in every gear. is this normal

no, it's not!
- do you have the later type of PX with a separate oil-tank which mixes the oil automatically to the gasoline or do you mix the two-stroke oil in a 50:1 ratio by yourself to the gasoline tank?
- if you have the 2 tank system you need to fill up the oil-tank always with two-stroke oil!
did you ever made a service on your Vespa?
like changing spark plug, replace engine oil , clean carburetor and adjust ignition etc?

I just want to know if its okay to use regular unleaded gas in my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, vin# is 2G2WP522241115621

Usually its fine to use regular unleaded gasoline in most cars anymore, but to be safe i would look in your owners manual and see what the manufacturer specifies, most cars now have whats called a knock sensor on the engine with regular gas the knock sensor detects engine knock from lower octane gases and tells the computer how to adjust ignition timing until engine knock disappears, being all cars have a knock sensor on them it usually is safe to use regular gas unless a turbo or supercharger is being used on the engine this application usually requires a higher octane gas to run the engine smoothly but as for your appilcation there should be no reason you cannot use regular gasoline, the computer will adjust your ignition timing as need to maintain good engine performance through the knock sensor.

2001 4.3 liter silverado stalls sometimes usually after idling at a light. Accelerate it clucks bad and stalls. Most of the time it starts back up sometimes it needs to site 5 minutes. Never happens when...

Sounds like the fuel injectors or fuel pump. Have you tested the pressure when it isn't running?

Also, the fuel filter, has it been changed?
A clogged fuel filter would cause a 'lack' of gasoline rather than too much, as is the case with a stuck open injector.

I also think that since it does it only when hot, that a sensor related to heat is giving a faulty value. For instance, if the cts (coolant temperature sensor) is stuck at a certain value or false value, then the vehicle could start malfunctioning due to this.

However, I think that if the car is doing this intermittently, then there might be engine codes stored in the obd-II computer scannable with a scanner for OBD-II.

Do you see a service engine soon light at any time while the engine is running?

A bad fuel pump would be a good place to look if it happens when the tank is 1/4 full. There could be sediment in the bottom of the tank with that much age and mileage.

Fuel Injection General Information Electronic fuel injectors for all gasoline engine applications are basically the same. They consist of an injector body, an electric solenoid, spring, nozzle and a filter. The injector receives a constant supply of pressurized fuel from the fuel system. The primary function of the fuel injector is to atomize gasoline into the surrounding air, at the proper time. Throttle body injectors atomize fuel into the intake manifold in much the same manner as a conventional carburetor (wet intake). Port fuel injectors direct the atomized fuel at the backside of each cylinder's intake valve(s) (dry intake). Gasoline direct injection systems operate at substantially higher pressure and direct the atomized fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder.
Basic Fuel System Diagnosis Two of the most import diagnostic checks, when dealing with a driveability problem involve the ignition and the fuel systems. The questions most technicians attempt to answer first are "is there spark?'' and "is there fuel?'' This often leads to solving most basic problems. For ignition system diagnostic testing, please refer to the information on engine electrical components and ignition systems found earlier in this manual. If the ignition system checks out (there is spark), then you must determine if the fuel system is operating properly (is there fuel?).

The starter will turn the motor over but not start it

johnnymleder, Remove sparkplug from engine. reconnect sparkplug to sparkplug wire. Make sure sparkplug is in contact with engine cylinder head. If you don't see a spark when cranking engine over( in dark garage at night) then something will be wrong with the motor's ignition system and will require servicing it to restore operation. If you see spark then reinstall plug into the engine. Do NOT connect ignition wire!!! Crank engine for 15-25 seconds. Do you smell RAW GASOLINE at the tailpipe??? If NO you may have clogged fuel system. Have FIRE extinguisher handy at ALL times when performing work on any fuel system!!!! Good luck with repair!! 12fixlouie

2002 explorer ping during acceleration until it shift to 3rd gear

the knock sensor senses knock and sends a signal back to the engine computer to ****** timing and adjust fuel patterns. however the electrical system can only handle so much. the ping is caused by colliding flame fronts inside the engine, the combustion chamber gets too hot and creates a flame front aside from the one created by the spark plug. this can be eliminated by using higher octane gasoline which speeds up burning eliminating the gasolines exposure time to the hot combustion chamber. if this does not work try checking your EGR system, the system pumps idle gas back into the engine to lower combsution temperatures, happy motoring

PS give the car atleast 2 fillups on premium gas before moving to the egr valve give it time to work out the low grade stuff
