SOURCE: hot water dribbles thru shower head when turned to hot

Replacing the cartridge should solve the problem, the balancing spool is stuck, replacing it will solve the problem. The valve should look like this http://www.moen.ca/shared/pdf/3170pt.pdf . I have unstuck the spools in the past, soaking it in white vinegar will help to remove build up.

SOURCE: only hot water, no cold water.

The cartridges in the single handle units are prone to display this issue in hard water areas as mineral deposits such as calcium build up on the stem. The stems also have small rubber band like rings - for lack of a better term- that break apart and can clog the ports on the side where the are on. New stem should resolve the issue totally unless you have had a pipe break or other construction to the plumbing system recently. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

You need to replace the stem. This will not cost you a dime; call MOEN and tell them the issue, with the model number, and they will send the replacement part. Many people don't know that MOEN is guaranteed for life (to the original owner)......another words, say you are the original owner :) They will not ask any questions. Good luck! PS Also works on any MOEN faucets you may have.

Taking a shower could be hazardous to your health if you do not properly and regularly clean your shower head. According to a study at the University of Colorado at Bolder, your shower head may contain harmful bacteria. But not to worry, with some old-fashion vinegar, elbow grease and about 45 minutes, you can take a shower with peace of mind. Clean a Moen shower head while it is still attached, or remove it before cleaning.
  • Volume 0%Detached Shower Head
    Step 1
Remove the Moen shower head. This may require pliers or vice grips. If you use tools, place a towel or rag over the shower head to protect it from scratches and dents.
    Step 2
Remove the cover of the shower head, if there is one. The cover may twist or snap off. Do not force it if it seems stuck. This is not a requirement. You can clean the shower head with still attached.
    Step 3
Warm the white vinegar on your stove. Do not boil the vinegar. Gauge how much vinegar you will need by the size of your Moen shower head. You need to fully submerge the shower head in the vinegar.
    Step 4
Pour the warm white vinegar in a bowl or bucket. Place the shower head in the bowl and submerge it in the white vinegar. Let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
    Step 5
Clear the holes in the shower head with a paperclip or thin wire. Clear all of the debris from the holes. Dunk and rinse the shower head back in the vinegar.
    Step 6
Rinse the shower head and cover with hot water. Re-install the Moen shower head and cover. Test the shower to make sure you have re-installed it properly. Attached Shower Head
    Step 1
Fill a plastic bag with warm white vinegar.
    Step 2
Place the bag over the Moen shower head so it is complete submerged in the warm vinegar. Place a rubber band or piece of tape around the stem, securing the bag to the shower head.
    Step 3
Remove after 15 to 20 minutes. Take an old toothbrush and scrub off the mineral deposits and debris. Rinse off the shower head thoroughly with hot water and a wet cloth. Brendan O'Brien

What could be rattling inside the hand held shower head

It sounds like the flow restrictor may have come loose and be rattling around in their. There is no way to open that shower head that I am aware of. If it really bothers you, buy new one.

How do I take apart a moen shower head?

You can remove the head from the shower arm by taking a crescent wrench. Put it on the flat sides of the nut on the showerhead and unscrew it counterclockwise. There is no way to take apart the Moen showerhead. If the reason you want to disassemble the showerhead is to clean it because it is clogged, disassembly is not needed. Just fill a Ziploc bag with a 50-50 solution of vinegar and warm water. Place the bag onto your shower head so it is fully immersed in the solution. Use a rubber band to hold it in place. Let it soak overnight and then take a toothbrush to any of the white scaly matter that might remain.

My water pressure is very low from the original install is there a way to adjust the faucet to allow a better pressure flow

Your issue could be caused by the water restrictor in the shower head. To know for sure, remove the shower head and then turn the water on.

Very tough water restrictions have manufacturers using plastic water restrictors in the shower heads.

Although you are not supose to, some shower heads can be taken apart to modify, or remove the restrictor.

I hope this helps you.

How to dissassemble shower head

The shower head is removable with a crescent wrench and a pair of pliers, or two pair of pliers. Put electric tape where pliers will grasp to avoid scratching. The shower head is attached to the extension pipe like a regular screw on fitting, so to loosen turn counter clockwise. As far as disassembling the head itself, some are meant to come apart, others not. Use white tefllon plumbing tape to re-install.
