How do I set the self-timer on to take a picture with me in it?

Hi, I lost my manual and I was wondering how I set the timer so that I can also be in the picture. I see under the Menu options where I can set the self-timer "on" but then isn't there a place where I would indicate the time before the camera takes the picture? Also, once you set the self timer "on" does it automatically take the picture? Thank you!

Selecting the self-timer
1. Rotate the MODE DIAL to select a RECORDING mode with the exception of VOICE RECORDING mode.
2. Press the SELF-TIMER button until the desired mode indicator displays on the LCD monitor.
A 10 second, 2 second or double self-timer icon appears on the LCD monitor. In Movie Clip mode, only the 10-second self-timer will work.
