ELECTRIC Dryer no heat or little heat, or shuts down to fast:

Check your venting and lint basket. Check blower for lint build up and blower wheel obstruction., test by trying to turn the wheel manually by hand (should be easy) May have to remove cabinet or front/back plate to get to it)

Next check the heating element itself with a meter for continuity OHMS CLOSED CIRCUIT. If not its defective.

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. 220 because if u only get half or 110 volts you will be able to run the machine which uses only 110 to run motor but not the heater which uses a full 220,

Check the thermal cut off, the cycling and the hi limit thermostats.
For continuity or OHMS. If no ohms or resistance they need replacement.

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle.

SOURCE: My Dryer Starts, then stops as soon as I release the button.

Its possible the dryer heat selector is at fault. If the timer inside does not move to the end of the heat cycle you may have further problems. Depending on how old the dryer and how long it has taken to dry garments, you may want to check that the motor has not gone bad causing an electrical overload. Faulty timers will cause extended drying times eventually putting a strain on the motor's bearings and electrical windings. You may want to get a replacement or get a repair estimate to repalce the belt, motor, drum rollers and heating coil components.

Maytag Centennial Gas Dryer: Only runs in "Air Fluff" setting. If any other setting (Normal Dry / Timed Dry) are used the dryer shuts down immediately. If I force the dryer to run by holding down the start...

Hello Kevin;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

When you run your dryer on fluff you are not using heat. The burning smell is when you use normal dry and the lint starts to burn. This will shut your unit down.

You just need a good cleaning. Nothing major. Send me your model number and I will help you.

Maytag 5806 Gas Dryer starts and suddenly stops.

You may have a problem with a thermal overload sensor. Since it runs and then shuts off, this sounds like the problem.
