Connecting a tp link wireless usb adapter to xbox 360

It is not possible to use generic usb wireless adapters with the Xbox or Xbox 360 game console. By 8246b47.jpgJohn Anderson Jun 20, 2012
The post John Anderson is correct that this would not work with a XBOX device. These are intended for and installed on computers (laptop or desktop) with which you would need to install drivers for it on. There is supported drivers that will allow the installation of this device into either a XBOX or PlayStation gaming console.

Setup your Xbox to a Wireless Network

Xbox game consoles can be connected to a router for wireless access to the Internet and Xbox Live. Follow these instructions to set up the Xbox or Xbox 360 connections to a wireless home network.

Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet sometimes also called a wireless network bridge must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.

Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.

Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)

Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard MS Xbox Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.

Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

Tips:

Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.

Troubleshooting

The built-in diagnostic of the Xbox can help with any falure.Navigate to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard, select the Network Settings menu option, then select Test Xbox Live Connection to run the test at any time. If the Xbox 360 built-in network diagnostic fails with the following message:

Technical configuration error. Please contact Xbox Customer Support.
This indicates a network issue requiring further investigation. The Xbox 360 network diagnostic contains the following tests run in the order listed below. Steps for troubleshooting Xbox 360 connectivity issues depend on which test reports the failure.
If you have an original Xbox 360 console, you need to attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter before you can connect your console to a wireless network.
Note You can use an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter with the Xbox 360 S console. If your wireless router is not near your console, you may get a better wireless signal by using a wireless networking adapter. When you connect an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to an Xbox 360 S console, the console will automatically use the wireless adapter instead of the built-in Wi-Fi.
If you have an original Xbox 360 console, you need to attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter before you can connect your console to a wireless network.

Step 1: Attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to the back of your Xbox 360 console.
Step 2: If a network cable is plugged into the back of your console, unplug it. Can i use a Netgear WPN111 USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter with a xbox ?

No definitely not....

If you want your Xbox to be wireless, then you need to buy Xbox wireless adapter...

Bcoz the Xbox wireless adapter comes with a pre-built in drivers....
but other brand wireless adapter donot comes with a built in drivers, you need to install the drivers using a driver cd....But Xbox do not allow driver cd's to be installed on it... so you will not be able to use ordinary wireless adapter instead of Xbox wifi adapter...

How do i configure a wireless adapter for xbox live

To use the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter with Xbox Live, you must have a high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL).

Your wireless networking adapter is designed to attach directly to the back of your Xbox 360™ console.

Xbox 360 is not detecting the network adaptor. light is constant red. also, the xbox will not let me configure the wireless network.

the problem is that your xbox rejects the adapter. try another adapter or try plugging it in to another port. I cannot for sure say its your xbox but it may be the adapter so try another one. if it works your adapter is not sending any information to your xbox and cannot be used. if it doesn't your xbox wont accept any hardware. to be sure its your xbox try connecting it through a ethernet cable. if it works your xbox cannot connect to that adapter..
