Can't turn volume down!

Yeah my "volume thing" vanished as well -- I have a Presario B1200 (is that a laptop or a notebook?!).

Now it's turned up full-blast and I can't turn it down!

I'm running Vista now..?!

Go into your sound devices from the control panel. You should be able to raise & lower the volume from there as well as putting the volume icon back into your system tray. Hope this helps.

Hello kef8,

Right click on your toolbar at the bottom of your screen and select Properties. This will bring up Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. Click on Customize in the lower right. Find the Volume icon in the list and choose to Always Show. Click on Apply then OK.

Compaq Presario CQ70-120US Widescreen Laptop PC Notebook: Why isn't the sound on the computer working?...

Well that could be a couple things, the sound is turned off. Check the volume control, or make sure the laptop isn't muted. It's usually a function key and one of the volume icons on the keyboard. Lastly it may be a corrupted sound driver. Reinstall the audio/sound driver by visiting and downloading the driver from the support section. Best of luck.

Can't get the sound to play with the movie on my dvd on compaq presario

Is it "muted"? There should be a volume control on the DVD player, hover your mouse over it and hopefully it will tell you. It may be turned way down too.

My laptop inspiron 6400 has no sond

If your laptop has no sound, then there are two things i can think of, your speakers are off, yeah i know not very helpful right. But you would be surprised how many forget to actually turn up the volume.

THE other more likely is this one that i found out recently. Access your bios on Boot up. You will need to navigate youre way through until you find a Section that asks if you want to Auto Detect Sound Card Prefrenses, Change it from Auto Detect to ON. I had to that with my roommates computer 5 months ago for him to regain sound. Without more detailed information i cant help more than that

Cant turn up volume my compaq presario laptop

Ok it could be a few things, I am assuming that you are using XP and its a laptop, so lets try these:
  1. Can you turn up the volume by using Control Panel -- Sounds and Audio Devices --- Device Volume slider?
  2. On some Compaqs, the controls for audio are activated by holding down the FUNCTION key (usually blue letters on key on the left side of keyboard) and then pressing the audio up or audio down key. These keys are usally towards the top of the keyboard. These keys can do multiple things depending if the blue function key is press down first. They can control things like switching between internal and external displays, turning up/down the brightness on your laptop display and controling your audio levels too.
  3. Do you hear any sounds at all, if not, does Device Manager list your sound device?
  4. If this is a desktop PC, number 2 does not apply.
ok try those and let me know, Thx! =)
