I would stick to line of sight and reduce this if there are physical obstructions between the transmitter and the reciever. The denser the obstruction, the less the range.. Inverse square law and all that sort of stuff

Line of site. Obstacles in the real world: tinted glass, concrete, trees, hills, metal, wood, anything. I don't know how they can claim the outrageous range on their packages. Give a more specific real world example and I'll try to estimate your range. FRS channels are 0.5 watts, GMRS channels are 2.0 watts, but require an FCC License.

Is the Midland micro mini mxt90 repeater capable.

I would say no, it's not repeater capable for widespread use. After taking a look at a photo of this radio, I don't see any buttons to program a specific frequency that would allow listening to a nearby repeater. The GMRS frequencies for this radio, probably in the 462.000 range, are preprogrammed and locked in. If you're lucky, you might discover a repeater in your area on the UHF band in this range - just for listening. It would require a FCC license under Part 97 of the FCC rules to transmit. The GMRS radios can be licensed under Part 95, mainly for family members to communicate with each other. Hope this helps.

My Midland walkie talkie quits transmitting about 3 seconds after I start transmitting

It is more likely a power issue. PTT switches do not normally cause a short circuit. Check the batteries, swap the batteries and see if that helps. Radios take a great deal more power to transmit than turn on or receive. If not the battery, try a low voltage battery, such as a cordless phone battery. If it still occurs, check your warrany and send it back to the factory.

Does a midland cb 40 ch have a range for distance?

  • Hi, I can help.

  • In general a CB goes roughly 1 mile per watt of power. A Midland CB out of the box will get you about 5 miles. After a Peak and Tune, a Midland CB can get out around 25 miles. If you put an SWR/Watt meter inline you can tell how much your rig is putting out.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

regards, Tony
