Won't unlock, handle is loose

Front door won't unlock, door handle is loose.

  • brown5410 Jul 08, 2009

Yes, it is a dead bolt like the one in the picture. My husband thought the problem was because of a loose handle that is below & he tried to remove it to tighten it up. He got it looser, but not removed, scratched the handle and the problem isn't solved.

Tighten all screws on lock to a firm tightness. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as to bend the lock casing! Snug only. Use powered graphite to inject into lock and add to key working it back and forth into the lock.

How to open the drivers front door on a 2014 Honda Odyssey when the door handles don't work

I'm assuming all the door locks work, (lock and unlock). I know it's a silly sounding suggestion but have you tried going to the passenger side and reaching across the vehicle? When you work the handle does it feel like its trying? Is it still spring loaded? Or is it just loose and floppy? The more common reason for a door handle to fail is one of the linkages inside the door panel has broken. Most of the connectors are plastic so they can snap. On a vehicle this new It could be a linkage thats just worked loose. You'll have to strip the whole door card off the inside of the door to hunt out whats going on. It'll probably cost you the skin off at least one knuckle doing this.

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer Limited. The passenger door electric lock is freezing and the door will not open. Once unlocked it works fine. Has had actuator replaced and isn’t the problem. Key won’t open it...

Just replaced all outer handles and 2 interior handles and a door latch on a sport track. The biggest problem with the locks were that they needed to be lubed. Take a spray like wd-40 and spray the latches. If the door panels are still off then it is easier. Also spray the window sliders to have them work easier. All the actuators work off the same signal. The one that does not work just may need a little lube.

Driver door's handle doesn't unlock all the 4 doors. It unlocks only driver door. Before the touch handle use to unlock all the 4 doors. The same works well from front passenger door.

The vehicle can be programmed to either open all the doors, or just the driver door. Check in the main menu for changing that function from just drivers door to all. (its also outlined in your owners manual)

I need a diagram of the locking mechanism in my 2001 nissan sentra so that i can use a slim jim to unlock the passenger side door.

I don't have a diagram of the door but if you slip the slim Jim in over the top of the outside door handle it should catch on the latch bar. If you are doing this because the door won't open from the interior handle or the outside handle the problem most likely isn't the lock. The way that handle connects to the release it is held in place with a piece of plastic that breaks fairly easy. If that piece breaks the interior door handle won't activate the unlock function when pulled and you will have a heck of a time getting the door opened so you can get inside the panel to do the repair.
