How to Troubleshoot a Maytag Epic Washer Front Loader
Tip
Call Maytag for service if any of these procedures doesn't clear the code on the washer display.
Warning
Maytag makes several models in the Epic series and operating instructions vary. For model-specific troubleshooting instructions defer to the user manual that came with your machine or contact Maytag support.
Each model in the Maytag's Epic automatic clothes washer series has a computerized processing unit that displays error codes on a digital screen when something goes wrong with the washer. These codes help Maytag service technicians diagnose the unit. If you know the codes, you can troubleshoot the problem yourself, rather than request a service call, possibly fixing the issue yourself and saving you some money in the process.

Mar 17, 2011 - my maytag 5000 series steam washer stopped and said Sud and now says ... Clicking this will make more experts see the question and we will .... I bought aMaytag 3000 seris in 2008 and I am getting these messages: F21 ... Maytag 5000 Series washer F21 error code was flashing and door will not open.
Try putting it through another cycle and see if it is still going to stay locked. That would seem like a timer problem. The door should only be locked normally, as I see it, when there is power applied to the locking solenoid so it should not remain locked with no power. You might call a maytag dealer and ask a sales or service person about this also.
It sounds like the timer is defective. You may need to call a Maytag sales and/or service center and ask them what to do. WIll the washer start a new cycle?? If so start a new cycle and swee if the machine will get past this sticking point next time.
Unplug the washer. Then plug it back in and press the button that turns it off. This should unlock the door. Same thing happened on mine and there was a kink in the drain hose. Once I unkinked the hose, unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it off, then I was able to run a drain & spin cycle to get the water out of the load that was in the washer. I then ran a full wash cycle (they'd gotten stuck in the first drain & spin cycle of a wash) and everything seems to be fine now.
1.) Take the washer outside. 2.) Loosen the two screws on the back panel and remove the back panel. The pump sits on the left-side of the opening. There's a black water hose with a metal clamp; 3.) squeeze the metal clamp with your fingers until it's loose enough to slide away from the pump. 4.) Separate the hose from pump and the trapped water will pour out and the door will then open; and 5.) clear any blockage from the drain hose and the pump.
