SOURCE: Dirt Devil M084600 Dynamite

Your roller won't turn. The belt is designed to break if anything threatens to keep the motor from turning. When you have the roller out, check the end caps to see if they rotate easily. If they do, then install a new belt being very careful that the belt is not pinched on the channel that it sits in. Once you have the belt installed, turn the roller by hand to make sure that there is no jamming or catching of anything. Install the plate and check the rotation again. Once you are satisfied that the roller turns easily, try the machine.
If the caps on the roller are jammed, as they will get from debris, hair and thread, etc., then you may have to replace the roller. The end caps on most of the Dirt Devils are carbon fibre and will break when you try to remove them.

SOURCE: Dirt Devil Reaction Vacuum belt replacement

The manual is confusing - I had the same problem. Make sure you put the belt around the smaller motor axle, not the lever arm attached to the on/off foot switch. It's a bit counter-intuitive, but that was my problem with this. Jeff

SOURCE: How do I change the bag on a dirt devil model 103?

On the open end of the bag that slips onto the vacume, there is a cloth "tab" sticking up from the band. Take hold of this tab and lift up while easily pulling back until you see the band about half way off the vacume. Now, you can take hold of the band and pull the bag the rest of the way off. You will notice that there is a "rib" in the middle of the band on the side that faces the vacume. That rib fits into the groove where the band goes on the vacume. When you install the bag put the band on this groove and work the band on around the housing. You can center the "tab" anywhere, just place it where you can get to it easy. The other parts you need are on the internet, I found them all including that rubber plug called the "attachment port" plug. The p/n for the replacement part is 3-201744-601. The original p/n is 3-501744-601 but you'll be better looking for the replacement part number. Good luck!

SOURCE: how to put the belt on the deit devil breeze

Here is a detailed discription on how to change your belt. Turn the machine compleatly upside down and place head on a flat surface. There are 4 screws to take out, then remove the base plate. Near the back of the channel the belt rides in you will see a stright silver shaft. Place the new belt over that shaft. The put the brush roller through the belt, so the belt is in the notched out section of the brush roller. Grab both ends of the brush roller and pull till the brush roller is back in it's origial spot on the base of the vacuum. Turn the brush roller 3 compleat turns backwards, then do the same forward to seat the belt. Put back on the base plate and put back the 4 screws. You are now ready to vacuum.

How do I change the belt on a dirt devil dynamite II cyclonic

Hi! Happy to help with that. Please follow the steps below.

  • Lay cleaner flat and flip cleaner to expose nozzle base. Base should lay flat and face up. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips screwdriver to remove the three (3) screws.
  • Lift and remove brushroll. Dispose of old belt.
  • Slide belt onto motor shaft.
  • Place new belt in area of brushroll without bristles.
  • With new belt in place, pull and slide brushroll into nozzle making sure that the brushroll end cap on the left is in the correct orientation. Rotate brushroll manually to make sure belt is properly aligned.
  • Reattach nozzle guard by carefully sliding back into place. Interlock rollers and nozzle guard by tilting rollers down towards the base while replacing the nozzle guard.
  • Be sure to replace all three (3) screws.
Hope this helps!

When machine is running the brush does not turn

You need a new belt. In order to change it, turn the machine compleatly upside down and place the head on a counter, handle on the floor.
There is a L shaped base plate to remove that has 5 screws in. Once the base plate is off, you see the brush roller and a silver shaft directly back from where the belt would ride. Remove the brush roller, place the new belt, Dirt Devil Style 5 ( see link below ) on to the shaft. Then insert the brush roller, so the belt is on the raised carved out section of the brush roller. Grab the brush roller at each end and stretch it till you are able to put the brush roller back into the base. Turn the brush roller backwards 3 compleat turns and the same forward to seat the belt.
Replace the base plate and you're done.

Put new belt on and the wheels are to high in the front of sweeper

Is this a dirt devil. First and foremost these things ****! secondly the wheels have to be snapped in underneath the piece that covers the belt. even when that is done the wheels will force the vacuum to low and stress the belt so much that it breaks! See my other suggestion on how to remedy this!
