Get a current monitor or meter (the Kill-a-Watt meters available at Fry's Electronics and eBay for about $20 to $25 is a good easy-to-use current-monitoring tool) and connect it to your dishwasher. Turn it on and start a cycle. After the dishwasher fills, the main pump should run. Watch the current. If it jumps up to a few amps (even briefly), then current is going to the pump and it's not running. If you don't see any increase in current, then it's probably your controller. (The drain pump is a separate pump from the main wash pump, so it can work and the main pump may not.)

Kenmore 665 dishwasher will rinse but will not wash, water gets in and empties but no wash

There is a pump specifically for pushing the water through the spinning arms of the washer. It's a pretty common problem with Kenmore machines for that pump to die (according to my repairman). It's easiest (if you can call it that) to pull the machine out of its hole in the counter by disconnecting the drain and water feed hoses, probably lowering the adjustable feet just a little, and tipping it on its face to work on the pump which is under the machine. Sears Parts Direct will have the part. Other places carry them as well since they are used in a variety of brand name machines, so check around for price.

I have a Kenmore Ultra Wash model 665 1373 and it isn't getting totally clean on the top rack - glasses and cups are almost clean but bowls etc are not, any ideas?

Check the shaft of the impeller, the plastic shaft might be broken, it was the problem with mine. To get to the impeller you have to remove the filter at the base of the diswasher and after you will see the screw that hold the impeller assembly in place, unscrew it and you will see right away if it is broken, Good luck

My kenmore diswasher model 665 15772 - lock button is flashing - dishwasher will not start. Can you help me?

6/3 I bought a Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher, Model 665. As many others have posted, my dishwasher also do does not automatically drain, leaving about 3" of water in the bottom of the machine. The only way to pump the water from the machine is to use the Drain/Cancel button, which cancels the cycle, and the dry option, leaving the dishes wet and spotty.

I just contacted a tech rep with Sears Repair and was told this is a Factory Defect with this model. Whirlpool (manufacturer) is aware of the problem and working on a resolution. Meanwhile, Whirlpool (via Sears and K-Mart) offers a free service call to install the "retrofit kit" that should solve the problem.

Even though Sears is aware of this problem, you will be expected to jump through their hoops - did you install a disposal at the same time and knock out the plug (FYI - if the plug is not knocked out, the Drain/Cancel option will not work and the machine will not drain at all). They will also ask if there is anything blocking the drain (FYI - if there is a foreign material block of any kind, the Drain/Cancel option will not work and the machine will not drain.

If this dishwasher (Model 665) does not drain automatically, THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT. A retrofit kit is available to correct. In the DC Metro area, the wait time for an in home service call is three weeks.

If you have this problem, call Sears 1-800-4MY HOME and schedule a FREE retrofit kit installation

ALSO, call your sales person, and the appliance dept manager, at the store where you purchased the appliance to let them know this product is defective.

My dishes on the top rack are no longer getting clean. I don't think any water is going to the top. The dishes on the bottom get clean but have a soap residue on them.

Replace pump gasket on Kenmore Diswasher model # 665-16874000. What parts do I need to take off to do this?

Should just have to unassemble the inner workings....spray arm and attachment then filter screen, $ upper sump cover and then there are 3 pull tabs underneath the unit that hold it to the tub. remove those and push up(will have to apply some force) set in new gasket properly and reassemble.
