I work in AutoCAD 2005. I have a file 123.dwg which was damaged after incorrect completion of work. I was looking for a file with the extension .bak. Renamed this .BAK file on .dwg extension. Now through a preview it is visible that is in the file, and the file still does not open. What to do?
SOURCE: Conflict with Autocad 2004 (using Windows Vista)
Autocad 2004 is designed to be used with Microsoft Windows XP (Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition), Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows NT 4.0 (SP6a or later) therefore I'd suggest to run your Autocad 2004 using Compatinity Mode --> Right click on the program icon--> properties-->Compatibility--> select one of the versions above
SOURCE: opening dwgs in autocad
In the past the fastest way to fix this is to go directly to the file and try to open it. It is possible that file or database has been corrupted. In some instances the file type dwg is not associated with autocad and the application hangs because it is looking for .dwg as an associated file type to autocad.
Let me know if you need further clarification.
Good luck!

Try using a different version of AutoCAD to open the drawing, such as AutoCAD 2013 vs. AutoCAD 2015 or plain AutoCAD vs. AutoCAD Architecture, etc. Try different computers if available. or try DWG Viewer Tool on website:http://www.ask.com/answers/722146801/how-to-view-corrupted-autocad-drawing?qsrc=14106
