Remove the bottom panel in the front or toe kick area. It's 2 or 3 small screws and lifts up. You may have to tilt the machine back to remove it. The pump and strainer are accessible there. The strainer cap screws off, put a catch tray under it because up to quart of water can drain there. Clean the strainer of debris before replacing pump.

I recently bought a Kenmore elite HE5 and have not yet been able to use it even one time as the F20 code error appears all the time, even on the machine cleaning cycle. What should I do in this case?

"F20" is a No Water Detect error. It is an indication that you either have no water coming into the washer, or very little water at all. If the pressure switch has not tripped after 6 minutes, the error code is displayed. This can be a potential problem with the following:

If you have NO water in the wash tub, check the following:

- Inlet water valve may be clogged. Clean inlet screens if necessary.
- Make sure water taps are on.
- Check inlet hoses for kinks or clogs.

If you HAVE water filling the wash tub, check the following:

- Make sure you don't have a siphoning problem. Click the following link for instructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587481-prevent_washer_siphoning

- Verify Drain Pump operation.
- Verify the Pressure Switch hoses are intact and connected properly.
- Verify wire harness connections at the pressure switch, inlet valves, drain pump and Central Control Unit (CCU).

To access the Drain Pump - UNPLUG the washer and take the lower panel under the door off by removing the three screws under the bottom edge. HINT: Propping the front feet of the washer up can make access much easier. I use a couple small blocks of wood. With the screws removed, the panel should drop down then come off. If it sticks, tap either side and it should come free. The pump is located directly under the wash tub in the front of the washer. Verify the electrical connections are good and that the pump is running. Click on the following link to check the pump for obstructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385845-checking_drain_pump_in_whirlpool_duet

To access the Pressure Switch - remove the three screws in the top panel along the back of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel should slide back, then, lift off. The pressure switch is located on the right-hand side of the washer in the rear. It is a round plastic device with electrical connections and a plastic air hose attached. Verify the electrical connections are intact, and the air hose is attached and not cracked or leaking.

To access the Central Control Unit (CCU) - with the top panel of the washer removed, the CCU is located directly behind, and just above the rear of the wash tub. There should be a tech sheet directly behind the lower panel or attached to one of the interior cabinet walls. Please refer to this sheet to learn how to perform diagnostics and to verify the wire connections at the CCU. In addition, the tech sheet will also assist in how to locate the components mentioned, and the specific measurements required determining if the components are good or bad.

This Kenmore Elite Oasis HE keep giving us an Ld error...the drain is clear and clean, the blades on the pump appear to be fine and there is nothing inside blocking the interior drain

"F21" (AKA SD) is a Long (SLOW) Drain error (LD). If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1.First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
2.Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
3.Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
4.Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.
To check the drain pump...

If you experience a problem where the washer does not drain properly or the drain pump makes excessive noise, here's the information you need to check the drain pump:

Symptom: PUMP IS RUNNING, BUT NOT DRAINING PROPERLY.

1. Unplug the washer while servicing inside the unit.
2. Remove the Cabinet....
#
1

Disconnect your Kenmore Oasis washing machine from its power source. Make sure that your washer is unplugged before beginning to disassemble it.
#
2

Remove the screws that hold the control console to the top of your Oasis washer. In some Kenmore Oasis models, the two screws may be covered by plastic end caps. After removing the screws, set them aside until you are ready to replace them.
#
3

Flip the console up, back and out of the way.
4

Locate the cabinet clips on the top of your Kenmore Oasis washer. These clips are located toward the back of the washer top and would be hidden by the console if it were not currently flipped up.
#
5

Slide your screwdriver underneath the metal cabinet clips. Wiggle the screwdriver back and forth to gently pry the cabinet clips free.
#
6

Disconnect the group of colored wires that plug into the top of the washer from the control console. These wires control the lid switch on your Kenmore washing machine. To disconnect, grasp the white plastic clip and pull gently.
#
7

Remove the washing machine cabinet. Tilt the cabinet towards you, and then lift the entire cabinet up and off of its platform.

3. Locate the drain pump. It will be located directly under the wash tub (it is the only pump this washer has).
4. There is an access removal cover on the pump that can be removed to clean out the trap. BEFORE doing this, it is strongly recommended that you remove all residual water from the wash tub & drain line or you will have about a gallon or so inside your washer and on the floor to clean up.
5. Here's a helpful way of quickly removing the residual water. If you own a wet/dry shop vac, remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum with the shop vac. This will empty the wash tub, pump and drain lines. If you don't own a shop vac, grab a bunch of old towels and open the access on the pump slowly so that it comes out at a trickle. Allow the towels to soak up the majority of the water. Close the access and stop the water if you need to get additional towels.
6. Open the pump access and remove once you have all the water drained. Check the drain pump for foreign objects and debris. Check the pump impeller and make sure there's nothing caught in it. Items as small as toothpicks or cotton swabs have been known to stop this pump from working.
7. Clean out the pump thoroughly and reinstall the access cover. Make sure the cover is snug, but do not over tighten.
8. Place the drain hose back in the standpipe (IMPORTANT - DO NOT FORGET!).
9. With the bottom panel still off, plug the washer back in and select the following on the operator console - DRAIN SPIN, NO SPIN, and then press any button under OPTIONS 4 times (it must be the same button). "C00" will show on the console display as the washer begins diagnostics mode.
10. Check the drain pump for leaks as the washer fills. The pump is gravity filled and will hold water even it is not pumping. Allow washer to run through diagnostics until it begins the wash tub tumble cycle.
11. At this point, you can stop the diagnostics procedure by pressing PAUSE/CANCEL 2 times. The drain pump energizes and the washer will begin to drain.
12. If the drain pump works normal and there are no leaks detected, reinstall the bottom panel and tighten screws.

NOTE: It is normal to have residual water left inside the wash tub under the wash basket. This is why it is important to leave the door ajar when not in use so this water does not become sour.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

The last 3 times after using my top load Kenmore clothes washer, a mud spot (1/2" diameter) keeps reappearing in the bottom of the cylinder. Should I use draino to clean the drainage system or clean the...

DO NOT use Draino or any other drain clog removal chemicals to clean a washer. It could damage the tub seal, drain lines and/or pump & impeller. If you wish to clean the washer, you need to access the drain pump and remove the drain lines and flush them out. The following link explains how you can access and remove the pump:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3794382-replacing_water_pump_whirlpool_top

I would recommend you UNPLUG the washer and take it to a location where you can flush water through it. Preferrably outside, or in a garage. If you lie the drain hose on the floor and fill the wash tub with a garden hose, simple gravity will flush water through the tub basin, drain pump and drain lines.

If you have any questions about these procedures, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: The drain pump has only one moving part (the impeller). It is a common place for debris to collect. Remove the two drain hoses on the pump to inspect.

Get error f21 intermittenly on my kenmore he5 washer

"F21" is a Long Drain error code. This indicates that you have an obstruction in the drainage system. In most cases, this means you probably have a clog in the drain pump. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

The intermittent nature of the problem could be something getting caught in the pump impeller and slowing it down. Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.

NOTE: The "SUDS" error can commonly occur with the F21 error code as this is usually generated when air is sensed in the drainage system.

Need to know how to clean lint trap and where is lint trap located on the Kenmore He3 washer

The only trap on a Kenmore Elite HE3 is in the drain pump. The following link explains how to access and clean it out:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. I personally own one of these washers and have repaired them many times. If you are experiencing drain problems, the problem will most commonly be attributed to the drain pump trap becoming clogged with debris. There's usually an error code associated with this problem of "F02". If you attempt to clean the drain pump and you discover the pump to be clear, check the drain lines (especially the line running from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the pump). If all these preliminary checks don't solve the problem, the manufacturer recommends replacing the drain pump.

If this is not what you were talking about, please post back and elaborate a bit more so I can understand the problem you are having. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore elite front load washer - wont drain and loud clicking sound from bottom

Yes...sounds like you may have something lodged in the drain pump impeller. The following link explains how to check the drain pump on this washer for obstructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

It does not take much to damage the drain pump on this washer. If something has been lodged in the pump for any significant period of time, the pump may be damaged and required replacement. The may still run, but may not be pumping water as it should. You may experience an error code as well. On HE3 models, the error code is "F02" or "SUD". On HE5 models, I believe it is an "F21" error. Replacement pumps can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com.

If you find that you need to replace your pump, I have this additonal link, that provides step-by-step instructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401845-replacing_drain_pump_whirlpool_duet

Please read the note at the bottom of the link, as it IS possible for a pump to still run and not pump water. I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.
