It's possible you have connected a composite output on the DVD to the component input on the TV. Composite is yellow for video, and red and white for right and left audio. Component is green, blue and red for video and red and white for audio. You might consider using the HDMI connection as well.

When I hook up DVD player to 32inch LG television there is no color on the TV it plays in black and white. Why?

first check color level setting on the tv when on av source input. double check input you are using, yellow video input (not green)
then try another device in that same input, then try the DVD player on another tv. The problem will be either DVD player or incompatibility or bad main board in TV, but usually a DVD or compatibility problem(cheap DVD player)

Vizio tv - plays fine and in color. hooked up phillips dvd player - all connectors connected correctly. when i play the dvd, it is only in black and white . . . not color. how can i get my dvd to play...

Which input on the TV and which output on the DVD player are you using? HDMI is the best and easiest. Next is standard video plus audio (3 leads, yellow - video, red and white - audio). If you are using the component input, you can get B&W if you have the leads incorrectly connected. If you're going from component to video in, you might have the same result, I'm not certain. I hope this helps you resolve your problem. Let us know.

I need to know how to hook my DVD player to ,y Samsung TV. I have it hooked up and have a picture but its in black and white.

look on the back of the television and the DVD player, there should be a SCART socket and/or red, white and yellow AV sockets, either use a SCART lead and connect it to the SCART on the DVD player and the TV.Or use an AV lead with 3 auxiliary shape connectors and match the colour of each connector with the female sockets on both the TV and the DVD player instead of using the other component connections.

My dvd won't play in color. I hooked it up using the red, white and yellow cables, but the picture is black and white. it worked with my old TV, but now I have a new Plasma. Thanks

I expect your new TV is looking for an S connected signal at least. You are connecting it using AV leads? Can you configure the TV to AV input instead of S video or Y-C?

Toshiba 50HX81 only showing black and white

I bet it's a DLP TV correct?
This symptom would indicate that the color wheel has flown apart. Which results in a monochrome only image.
Color wheels are expensive and need to be replaced by a qualified service person.

Vcr hookup

Try using a S-Video cable if your VCR has the connection. Otherwise, use a RCA composite-video cable on one of the AV inputs of the TV. The cable has a Yellow, Red, White color, the same as the jacks it goes in.
