The ThinkPad system may experience a bluescreen that may only appear for a very short time, followed by a reboot. During POST, the system will display a POST 2100 error code indicating the drive cannot be initialized. The machine will not boot into the operating system.
NOTE: Powering the system fully off and then on again after 20-30 seconds will usually clear the error, but a warm reboot will not.
IT have personally experienced this issue twice so far, & Lenovo posted an advisory on this in July.
If you have encounter this issue since getting your T440 notebook, it's highly recommended to update your SSD to this new firmware.
The firmware updater is windows based, & is non-destructive (does not affect existing data) so it's easy to update.
To be absolutely safe though, it's recommended to back up your essential data before installing this firmware update.

ThinkPad may bluescreen and reboot to POST error 2100 Lenovo Support US

Also recommended is to use CCleaner registry cleaner which solves the problem temporarily.

Re: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

It is telling you that there is a problem with your hard drive. If you know how to get to your bios screen and have a recovery CD you should be able to restore it. That is IF the hard drive is in fact not defective. Otherwise you will need to to take it to someone who does computer repair and either let them replace the hard drive or depending on your ability do so yourself or purchase another laptop

Error 2100 HDD0 Hard Disc drive initialization error (1)

Interesting.

I have only encountered this issue since using Audlogics software to remove duplicate files on my machine.

Nothing against Audlogics, I have used it before to remove duplicate images or mp3s without any problems.

This time I (maybe foolishly) scanned the entire machine and removed every duplicate file with every extension (whilst keeping an original)

Since then my machine crashes, especially when using Chrome, and gives this error upon restart. It will eventually restart.

It works fine in safe mode and does not crash at all.

I am about to go back in and try it in normal mode and run various software to see which one causes the crashes.

I'm confident that the hard drive is still fine though.

Hard drive not working..unable to boot up. Get this error message : 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) Press Esc to continue

Please try re-seating the hard drive.

If you look at the bottom of your laptop, along the edge there should be a screw larger then all the rest which holds a small panel. Remove this screw and panel. Remove the drive pulling lightly, with steady pressure, straight out. Place the drive back in and screw the panel back.

We had a lot of these issues, and they were often solved by just this manner alone.

Let us know if we have to go any further.
Good luck

T60 will not boot up

There appears to be a BIOS update or two available for the Lenovo TP T60. One of the updates makes reference to this error code, but the verbage afterwards is a little different to that posted here. Mind you, my recommendation is that you should stay on target with BIOS updates because they are fixing problems with the computer, even if you don't realise you are having those problems!

Please go here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-64462.html

Press Ctrl F and search for 2100. This tells you which update fixed a problem with ERROR 2100: At the bottom of this page you will find that these updates are for all regions. You will also find the link to the BIOS update utility.

My experience of BIOS updates on the Thinkpad range is that you have to undock the laptop prior installing the BIOS update, and ensure the laptop has a constant power support - NOT BATTERY. Ensure you read the on-screen notes carefully.

Hope this helps.
