How do I trouble shoot a wells f49 deep fryer? With the power on the high limit light comes on when the temp is turned up and the limit switch does not need reset.

The light limit does not reset. The heat light and the high limit lights come on when the thermostat is turned up.

SOURCE: wells deep fryer won't heat

Is the oil coll and it still doesnt reset? If so the hi limit is bad, which is the reset. If you gain acess to it you will see 2 wires.Connect these wires and it should heat.HOWEVER this is a saftey device that prevents the oil from getting too hot and catching on fire.

SOURCE: fryer isn't turning on. tried reseting. still no luck

Hello. Here is a wiring diagram for your unit:

http://www.wells-mfg.com/~WELLS/WELLS%20LIBRARY/Wells%20Wir%20Diag/307298.pdf

Check to see that the thermostat clicks at or about just above on, try again the reset, sometimes it is hard to push in all the way. If that does not correct the problem, make sure your power is on, do any indicators light? It could be as simple as a burnt of wire, you will need to check the resistance of the parts to tell any more, thermostat, and hi-limit should read closed (zero). The element should read 4 to 15 ohms each, there are 3 in the tube. The relay coil should be anywhere from 200 to 1200 ohms, the contacts open. I have seen broken wires in the pivot elbow where power comes up the the element head.
Hope that helped, and thank you.

Hi,
Running the fryer with no oil will over heat the coil very quickly...this caused the element to burn out...

That element will be replaceable...

If you call these guys you should be able to purchase a new element from them...

The High Limit is a self resetting thermostat that acually works like an oven control. If the fryer is too hot it will cut off the gas burner valve voltage:
OEM PN is 00-854453
Original PN VUL854453

The 854453 number comes up often in the part search for the high limit.
The high limit contacts can be checked and reading the NO and NC terminals. This control / switch is normally closed until opened by heat at 450 Deg F.

Burner will not light

What you need to do is simple. Check for continuity between the following links diagram and any open parts are gonna be the problem. The main suspect is gonna be the gas valve solenoid followed by the control thermostat. if the fryer got real freaking hot then check the fuse and high limit that is tied into the gas safety magnet.
anybody with any fryer experience can fix that puppy in a minute.

Deep Frier power indicator light is on but will

Most fryers have what is called a hi limit. When the oil temp reaches a certain Max temp this switch opens the circuit and will not allow the unit to heat. On commercial fryers, the hi limit has a really small red plunger button. Push it in to reset.

The fryer was working normal. Then the temperature light went out and the fyer is not coming on whe I flip the off an on switch

The first thing you need to check for is a high temperature limit cutout switch. It will be located near the gas valve but on the right side it wil have a cover that will snap open. it is about the size of 4" X 1 1/2". Once you get it open puch the button in you shoul dhere a click. When you hear the click you are reset. Once you turn the fryer back on use a temp probe or a type K thermocouple w/ a meter to check temp. if it starts over riding temp shut the unit off and replace the t-stat and the t/l cutout switch.

Thanks

Wells f49 fryer temperature problem

This is the cause of a faulty thermostat. You may also want to consider replacing the high limit as well if it has tripped more than a few times.

Wells 35lbs fryer double vat

Hello

This sounds to me as if your thermostat is not cycling the unit off. But I can see a second problem as well there should be a high limit cutoff to prevent it from running on and boiling over. I would check both. The thermostat is the dial or knob to regulate temperature and the high limit is the safty to prevent boil over or run on.

Thanks
